Working delegations from provinces and press agencies visited and presented Tet gifts to Nam Du island
(Baonghean.vn) - Tet gifts filled with solidarity from the mainland sent to officers, soldiers and people of Nam Du island are a timely, practical and meaningful source of encouragement for the unit to stay confident and continue to stick to the sea to protect the sovereignty of the Fatherland.
On December 21, a working delegation of the Naval Region 5 Command, along with southern provinces, businesses and press agencies, visited and presented Tet Quy Mao 2023 gifts to the government, people and units stationed on Nam Du Island (Kien Giang province).
Nam Du archipelago belongs to Kien Hai district, Kien Giang province, located about 100 km northeast of Rach Gia city; consists of 21 large and small islands, of which 11 islands are inhabited with two commune-level administrative units: An Son commune and Nam Du commune, with a total area of about more than 10 km2.2.

Nam Du is an archipelago with very favorable natural conditions, likened to Ha Long Bay in the Southwest sea of the Fatherland. This is an important basis for socio-economic development, especially tourism services and building a national defense and security posture.
In recent years, with the attention of the Party and State, infrastructure on the island is being invested in and built with a system of wharves, roads around the island, schools, medical stations and social security works to serve the material and spiritual life of cadres, soldiers and people.
In particular, on the island commune of An Son, right near the wharf, the local government and people built a memorial to commemorate nearly 500 fishermen who died in storm No. 5 in 1997.

Currently, on the two island communes of Nam Du archipelago, there are nearly 1,100 households with more than 3,900 people. Along with local Party committees, authorities, departments, branches and organizations, there are also civilian and military units stationed on the island such as Radar Station 600 of Battalion 551, Naval Region 5; Border Guard Station 742/Kien Giang Provincial Border Guard and Nam Du Lighthouse Station of the Ministry of Transport.
Stationed on Nam Du Island, Radar Station 600 actively participates in mass mobilization work; effectively implements the mass mobilization model "Each unit is associated with a charity address". Specifically, every month, the production fund is allocated to families in difficult circumstances; gifts are given to poor and studious students; local forces are coordinated to clean up the environment; support people to overcome the consequences of natural disasters... In addition, the unit has promoted internal resources, organized production and livestock raising with good results.
Visiting and presenting gifts to the government, people and forces stationed on Nam Du island, the delegation wished the officers and soldiers good health and confidence to successfully complete their assigned tasks.

On behalf of the units stationed on the island, Captain Hoang Van Thuan - Political Commissar of Radar Station 600 affirmed that the units continue to uphold the spirit of responsibility, determination, and solidarity between the army and the people to build the Nam Du archipelago to develop more and more, contributing to the management and firm protection of the sacred sea and islands of the Fatherland.
In recent years, along with localities across the country, the southern provinces and cities have paid great attention to the material and spiritual needs of the cadres, soldiers and people on the island, specifically supporting and helping the locality to consolidate the system of school facilities and infrastructure; donating equipment and means to serve life. Contributing to encouraging cadres, soldiers and people on the island to overcome all difficulties, work with peace of mind, and successfully complete the task of protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.
