INTERNATIONAL TOURISM ACTIVITIES RECOVER SLOWLY, NUMBER OF VISITORS IS MODEST

Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung said that by allowing the reopening from March 15, 2022, Vietnam has become the first country in Southeast Asia to fully open tourism, and is also one of 62 countries in the world to completely lift entry restrictions related to Covid-19.

In order to remove difficulties and obstacles when reopening tourism activities, ministries and branches have also issued policies to facilitate attracting international tourists to Vietnam. However, international tourism activities are still recovering slowly, the number of international visitors to Vietnam is still very modest, many international tourist markets are still frozen, international flights are interrupted.

In 2022, the country will only welcome about 3.5 million international visitors, reaching 70% of the target of welcoming 5 million visitors in 2022, which is a very small number compared to Vietnam's capacity to welcome visitors. Total revenue from tourists is estimated at 495,000 billion VND, exceeding 23% of the 2022 plan and reaching 66% compared to 2019.

The objective reasons are that the opening time is not yet the international tourist season, the international situation is complicated, and the epidemic prevention and opening policies of different countries are different. Some tourism businesses believe that the trend of European tourists is choosing nearby destinations instead of going to distant markets such as Southeast Asia, including Vietnam.

The subjective reasons are that visa policies have not really created favorable conditions for international tourists to come and extend their stay, increasing spending in Vietnam; resources for tourism promotion and advertising have not been effective; the establishment of national tourism promotion offices abroad has not been implemented.

At the conference, tourism businesses; leaders of ministries, sectors and localities all agreed that Vietnam tourism currently needs more breakthrough mechanisms and policies related to entry procedures and visas; improving the capacity of transport connections - air and road; strengthening tourism promotion; enhancing training and fostering tourism human resources...

PROPOSAL TO ALLOW NGHE AN TO ORGANIZE SOME CHARTER FLIGHTS

Speaking at the conference, comrade Nguyen Duc Trung - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee emphasized that in order to restore the economy and restore tourism development, in 2022, Nghe An has implemented many activities such as organizing the Forum on Tourism Development Linkage between Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and the extended North Central region; many activities for Famtrip delegations to promote and advertise Nghe An's tourist attractions.

Up to this point, Nghe An has welcomed 6.7 million tourists, of which more than 4.4 million are staying. Tourism revenue reached over 12,300 billion VND, pure tourism revenue reached 5,600 billion VND, more than 502% over the same period in 2021. However, international tourists to Nghe An are still low, reaching 33,500 visitors in 2022.

The reason is that Nghe An's tourism products for international visitors are not outstanding or typical; tourism human resources serving international visitors do not meet requirements; infrastructure connections are not convenient; advertising and promotion activities have not been adequately invested.

Emphasizing that Nghe An has determined that by 2030, tourism will become a key economic sector and contribute at least 10% to the province's GRDP, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee said that in the coming time, Nghe An will comprehensively implement the province's tourism development strategy, focusing on improving the investment environment, attracting investors to develop tourism products and promoting digital transformation in tourism activities.

The province will focus on developing infrastructure, especially infrastructure connecting tourist destinations and attracting investment in infrastructure to serve tourism development; Focus on promoting the brand and tourist destinations of Nghe An to tourists through the digital environment; Focus on training human resources to meet the requirements of tourism development in the coming time.

Nghe An agrees with the proposal to consider extending the length of stay for visitors using tourist visas; applying long-term tourist visas for tourists from some key markets; and paying attention to supporting localities in promoting tourism to international markets.

Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Duc Trung proposed the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Transport to allow Nghe An to organize a number of charter flights from the Korean and Chinese markets to Vinh International Airport, thereby attracting more international visitors to Vietnam.

Based on the analysis of the shortcomings and limitations in the past time, the Prime Minister said that it is necessary to change the mindset of tourism after the Covid-19 pandemic to be more creative and innovative. In the approach to tourism, it is necessary to diversify the market, diversify products, diversify the supply chain, and provide services that tourists need, not what we have.

Tourism development in the coming years must have a breakthrough, in the spirit of the Politburo in Resolution No. 08, in which it is necessary to fight against negativity in granting visas to tourists. Tourism development must be placed in the overall development of other economic sectors. Tourism development is associated with the economy, culture imbued with the national identity, traditional history of the Vietnamese people, associated with the digital transformation process, with new developments...

Regarding solutions for the coming time, the Prime Minister requested to link tourism development with socio-economic activities each year, in each period; focus on eco-tourism, adventure tourism, medical tourism... Build safe, friendly, attractive, humane, hospitable, convenient destinations, warm the hearts of tourists, satisfy the hosts. Review legal regulations and policies to adjust, supplement and amend.
