Eliminate inter-provincial football betting ring with transaction amount of more than 50 billion VND

On December 21, the Criminal Police Department of Nghe An Provincial Police said that under the direct direction of the provincial police leadership, in coordination with relevant professional departments and local police, they successfully dismantled a large-scale inter-provincial football betting ring for the 2022 World Cup, initially arresting 21 subjects with a transaction amount of more than 50 billion VND.

Through the work of grasping the situation, the Criminal Police Department of Nghe An Provincial Police discovered the gang.gambleby means of online football betting, taking advantage of the 2022 World Cup (accessing illegal football betting sites Viva88, Bong88...) with the amount of money gambled on the Semi-final and Final matches being especially large, up to tens of billions of VND. The three ringleaders include: Nguyen Duc Tuan (born in 1989), residing in Chau Khe commune, Con Cuong district, Pham Dinh Binh (born in 1989), residing in Nghi An commune, Vinh city and Pham Duc Cung (born in 1981), residing in Nghi Phu commune, Vinh city.

To operate the gambling ring, the subjects created a general agent (a level 1 agent with a limit of 1,000,000 points equivalent to about 100 billion VND) to provide accounts for 6 branches (6 level 2 agents) in Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces and several other localities with dozens of subjects participating in gambling.

Subjects who want to participate in gambling by betting will use money to buy points from level 2 agents in the group before each match. At the end of the matches, depending on the win-loss ratio, the points of the subjects participating in gambling will be converted into money and transferred to the player's account. In addition, the subjects also announce the odds and receive betting odds by phone or receive odds directly when the player has a need.

The activities of this group have greatly affected the security and order situation in the area and pose a risk of causing some types of crimes such as fraud, illegal credit, property theft, etc.

After collecting sufficient evidence, from December 15 to December 19, under the direct direction of the provincial police, the provincial police's Criminal Police Department coordinated with relevant departments and local police to arrest and search the residences of 21 subjects residing in Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces, seizing 21 mobile phones, 1 computer and many related exhibits. The authorities also froze 15 bank accounts of the subjects.

Initial investigation determined: From the beginning of the 2022 World Cup season to the time of arrest, the amount of money the subjects transacted for football betting was more than 50 billion VND.

Currently, the Criminal Police Department of Nghe An Province is detaining the suspects and continuing to investigate and expand.
