Phan Boi Chau was a leader of the typical national liberation movements before the proletarian revolutionary era, a revolutionary with outstanding ideology, a great cultural figure in the history of Vietnamese culture. He was respectfully called by President Ho Chi Minh as “a hero, an angel, a person who sacrificed himself for national independence, revered by 20 million people in slavery”.

With a policy of saving the country in a violent direction, Phan Boi Chau founded Duy Tan Association and Viet Nam Quang Phuc Association to gather forces to fight with armed revolutionary weapons and ask for external aid.

Among those movements, the most prominent was the Dong Du movement with the spirit of “same continent, same race, same culture”. The Dong Du movement created the foundation for changes in our country in the early 20th century; contributed to training a team of intellectuals ready to accept the path of proletarian revolution, and many of them later became key figures of the Vietnamese Revolution.
