Nghe An: Strengthening inspection and examination to ensure food safety during Lunar New Year and Spring Festival 2023

Recently, the People's Committee of Nghe An province issued Plan No. 913/KH-UBND to deploy food safety assurance work for the Lunar New Year and the 2023 Spring Festival season in Nghe An province.

The proposed plan's objectives are: Ensuring safetyfoodin the production, processing, trading, import and use of food; strengthen control and promptly prevent the production and trading of fake and poor quality food; ensure consumer rights and prevent food poisoning during the Lunar New Year and Spring Festival 2023.

The plan implementation period starts from December 23, 2022 to March 12, 2023. During this period, there are 3 main activities to ensurefood safetyimplemented, including: Communication activities, inter-sectoral inspection and examination activities, monitoring activities...

Accordingly, Nghe An province has established interdisciplinary inspection and examination teams from the provincial to communal levels; inviting representatives of the Fatherland Front at the same level to participate in the inspection and examination. Inspection and examination activities focus on product groups that are consumed a lot during Tet and festivals and have high risk factors; food processing villages, markets, border gates, cities and towns that are food distribution locations, especially food supply hubs.

Regarding monitoring activities, the Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Health, Department of Industry and Trade, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, People's Committees of districts, towns and Vinh city to direct relevant agencies to proactively establish monitoring teams to monitor food contamination risks according to assigned and decentralized fields, focusing mainly on items used a lot during the Lunar New Year and festivals such as meat and meat products, soft drinks, cakes, jams, candies, cereal products... to promptly warn of food safety risks before, during and after Tet, as well as the 2023 Spring Festival season.

Implementing Plan No. 913/KH-UBND of the Provincial People's Committee, Nghe An Department of Health - the standing agency of the Provincial Food Safety Steering Committee also issued Official Dispatch No. 5191/SYT-NVY on the implementation of food safety work during the Lunar New Year and the Spring Festival season 2023 to agencies, units and localities in the province.

The Department of Health requested that the interdisciplinary inspection and examination teams focus on implementing inspection and examination activities with focus and key points. The inspection and examination contents focus on quality, food safety, expiry date, origin of raw materials, food products, declaration of product standards, product labeling, raw materials, additives used in food production and processing, food production conditions and food advertising.

Districts, towns and Vinh city direct relevant departments, units and People's Committees of communes, wards and towns to coordinate with relevant units to prepare forces and specialized equipment to be ready to promptly handle food safety incidents, food poisoning cases, foodborne diseases in the community, and promptly report to superiors according to regulations.
