Dog thieves use electric guns and trucks to steal dogs
(Baonghean.vn) - Nguyen Dinh Phong initiated and invited the subjects to steal dogs to sell to Hong for spending money. The subjects used electric guns and trucks to commit the act of stealing dogs.
On December 29, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened a first-instance criminal trial against the defendants Nguyen Dinh Phong (born in 1992), Nguyen Dinh Quynh (born in 1987), Vuong Van Hong (born in 1986) and Doan Chi Linh (born in 1986), all residing in Vinh City, for the crime of theft of property. In addition, Phong was also prosecuted for the crime of illegal possession of military weapons.
The indictment shows that around June 2022, Phong, Hong, Quynh, and Linh went together to steal dogs in Ha Tinh province to butcher and eat, but the mission was unsuccessful.

On July 19, the four subjects discussed and assigned tasks to steal dogs. Accordingly, Phong and Quynh were the ones who directly used homemade electric guns, electric shocks, tape, etc. to steal dogs. Hong and Linh drove the car behind to collect the dogs and put them in iron cages. That night, the subjects captured 14 dogs in Thanh Chuong district and Vinh city.
After being stolen, the dogs will be brought to Hong's kiosk at Vinh wholesale market for him to buy. The purchase price will depend on whether the dog is alive or dead; old dogs will be bought at a lower price. And for every 100kg of dog, Phong and Quynh will give Hong 1 million VND. As for Linh's wages, Hong will pay for them herself.
The group of “dog thieves” was discovered when the subjects were carrying dog cages into Hong’s kiosk when the police discovered them. Authorities determined that the 14 dogs that the subjects stole from many households weighed nearly 200 kg, with a total value of 17.5 million VND.
Searching the suspects’ residence, the authorities discovered 1 gun and 5 bullets at Vuong Van Hong’s house. These were the guns and bullets Phong bought in Huong Son district (Ha Tinh province) from a man of unknown origin for 3 million VND.
At the trial, defendant Phong admitted that he was the one who initiated the dog theft to make money. The defendants stated that after stealing the dogs, they would sell them to Hong. Defendant Hong stated that because his family was in the dog meat business, he bought them to sell.
Considering that in this case, the defendant Nguyen Dinh Phong was the initiator and therefore must bear primary responsibility. Therefore, the court sentenced Phong to 24 months in prison for theft of property and 12 months in prison for illegal possession of military weapons.
Defendant Vuong Van Hong was sentenced to 24 months in prison; Nguyen Dinh Quynh was sentenced to 7 months in prison; Doan Chi Linh was sentenced to 7 months in prison with a suspended sentence for theft of property.
