US President calls for strong action to prevent gun violence
President Joe Biden said the United States is facing a gun violence scourge that requires stronger government action amid a series of shootings in California.

“While we await more details about these shootings, we call for stronger action to combat gun violence in America,” Mr. Biden said in a statement.
President Biden also called for swift action in both houses of Congress to ban assault weapons and protect Americans in their homes, schools and workplaces.
In recent days, there have been three mass shootings in California that have left victims and injured people. Local police said that one person was killed and eight others were injured in a shooting on the evening of January 23 (local time) in Oakland, California.
On the same day, at least seven people were killed in the city of Half Moon Bay. On January 22, 11 people were killed in a dance studio in Monterey Park during a Lunar New Year celebration, the suspect in the shooting later committed suicide.
In the first three weeks of 2023, the United States recorded 39 shootings.
