A Su-22 aircraft crashed while landing in Yen Bai, killing one pilot.
During the attempt to rescue a downed Su-22 aircraft in Yen Bai, Captain Tran Ngoc Duy, Deputy Squadron Commander and Chief of Staff of Squadron 1, 921st Air Regiment, 371st Division, bravely sacrificed his life.
At 12:09 PM on January 31, 2023, Su-22 aircraft number 5873 of the 921st Air Regiment, 371st Division, Air Defense - Air Force Command, piloted by Captain Tran Ngoc Duy, took off on its first flight, training flight number 206.
At 12:27 PM, during landing, the plane encountered difficulties. The pilot was ordered to eject but attempted to save the aircraft; however, the plane subsequently crashed and the pilot perished.

Immediately after the incident, the Ministry of National Defence directed the Air Defence and Air Force Command and relevant agencies and units to promptly address the consequences and investigate the cause of the accident; together with functional agencies and local Party committees, authorities, and organizations, they visited and encouraged the family and provided support to Comrade Tran Ngoc Duy and his family.
