Chinese national team coach receives maximum salary of 2 million USD/year

The Chinese Football Association (CFA) has set a salary cap for any coach who wants to lead the country's men's national team in the future.

Chinese media revealed that the CFA is not willing to spend money to invite famous coaches to lead the national team. The captain's seat of the Chinese team has been vacant since the third round of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers ended in March last year.

The CFA plans to hire a foreign coach to prepare for the 2023 Asian Cup, which is likely to take place early next year. However, the CFA is only willing to pay a maximum salary of $2 million per year for the new coach of the national team. In the past, the CFA paid $28 million per year to Marcello Lippi. Other foreign coaches of the Chinese team such as Fabio Cannavaro and Alain Perrin also received much higher incomes than $2 million per year.

However, the salary ceiling of 2 million USD/year is not low compared to the average of national team coaches in the top football countries in Asia. Coach Paulo Bento is said to have received 1.35 million USD/year when leading the Korean team. Carlos Queiroz also received only about 900,000 USD/year when leading the Iranian team atWorld Cup 2022.

Coach Park Hang-seo used to receive a salary of 50,000 USD/month (equivalent to 600,000 USD/year after tax) when leading the Vietnamese team. According to Zing's research, coach Philippe Troussier, who is rumored to be leading the Vietnamese team, is expected to receive a higher salary than coach Park Hang-seo. If calculating the salary before tax, the new head coach of the Vietnamese team will definitely receive an income higher than 1 million USD/year.

The financial crisis in Chinese football in recent years has prevented the CFA from spending money to recruit famous coaches to lead the national team. Li Tie and Li Xiaopeng, the two most recent domestic coaches to lead the Chinese team, only receive salaries of about 300,000 USD/year.

On the evening of February 1, Hanoi FC announced the recruitment of foreign player Silva. This defensive midfielder will wear the 77 shirt of the capital team. According to Transfermarkt's valuation, Marcao Silva's current value is 300,000 Euros (about 7.5 billion VND). At Hanoi FC, Marcao Silva will wear the number 77 shirt.

Silva was a replacement for Jean Carlos, another Brazilian midfielder. However, Hanoi FC did not have time to register Carlos to play in V.League 2023 due to problems with some personal procedures. Therefore, this deal fell through.

Silva was born in 1991 and has played for famous teams in the highest division of the Samba country (Serie A) such as: Botafogo-SP, Cuiaba, Atletico Goianiense... The only time this defensive midfielder left his homeland was in 2019. He moved to play in the UAE national championship in 2019 but this journey only lasted 7 months.
