Nghe An farmers harvest late flowers, sell on the occasion of the 15th day of the first lunar month
(Baonghean.vn) - Currently, many gardeners are busy harvesting flowers to supply the market during the Full Moon Festival of January. Although flower prices have decreased compared to Tet, people are quite excited because the market is easy to consume.

In the 2022-2023 flower crop, due to unfavorable weather, many gardeners planted late, along with severe cold spells at the end of the year, so the flowers bloomed slowly and could not be sold in time for Tet. After Tet, the warm and sunny weather created favorable conditions for the flowers to grow and bloom in time for the full moon of January.
Mr. Nguyen Van Thang (Long village, Thanh Linh commune, Thanh Chuong district) grows 1 sao of chrysanthemums of all kinds. During Tet, only the orange chrysanthemums, purple orchid chrysanthemums, and chrysanthemums bloom on time and are sold for Tet. The 6,000 crystal yellow chrysanthemums did not bloom in time due to unusual weather. After Tet, he focused on taking care of them, combined with favorable weather, so up to now, all the crystal chrysanthemums in Mr. Thang's garden have bloomed, in time to be sold on the occasion of the Full Moon.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thang said: “Compared to Tet, the price of chrysanthemums is cheaper, only half. Currently, the price at the garden ranges from 2,500 VND - 3,000 VND/branch. The price is cheap, the profit is not much but I am very excited because the flowers are still easy to sell.”
Prolonged rain and floods in early November 2022 caused 10,000 chrysanthemum plants of Phu Thinh Agricultural and Service Cooperative (Nghi Hoa Ward, Cua Lo Town) to be flooded. After the water receded, the flowers took about 15 days to recover, so they "missed" the Tet flower crop, only in time to sell on the occasion of the Full Moon.
“Compared to Tet flowers, the price has decreased by about 30%. However, the market demand is large so it is still easy to consume. In just 2 days of posting for sale on the personal page, up to now, 10,000 flower branches have been ordered,” said Ms. Nguyen Thi Dung, Director of the cooperative.

With a greenhouse area of nearly 500m2, after the flood in early November 2022, Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan (Hung Dong commune, Vinh city) boldly planted nearly 10,000 white and yellow chrysanthemums of various types to sell after Tet.
Mr. Tuan said: “After the flood, waiting for the land to dry up, planting flowers for Tet is not enough time, planting vegetables is also difficult to sell during the harvest season, the price is not high. Therefore, I decided to replant chrysanthemums to sell after Tet to people going to temples, pagodas, worshiping Khai Ha, Than Tai and the full moon of January. Due to high demand from people, the flowers are well cared for, beautiful, colorful, with thick branches and large flowers, which are favored by many people. On this full moon occasion, I sold 5,000 white and yellow chrysanthemums to the market, the selling price at the garden fluctuates from 5,000 to 6,000 VND/branch.”

On this occasion, flower growers in Yen Thanh, Nghi Loc, Vinh City, Nam Dan, Hung Nguyen, etc. are also busy harvesting the last batch of flowers to supply the market during the Full Moon Festival of January. Although flower prices do not increase as sharply as during Tet, according to garden owners, compared to growing vegetables, chrysanthemums still bring in a better income and are easy to sell.
As a locality with a fairly large flower growing area (about 13 hectares), Mr. Nguyen Van Quang - Vice Chairman of Nghi Lien Commune People's Committee (Vinh City) said: "Instead of focusing on growing Tet flowers, in recent years, Nghi Lien people have invested in greenhouses to grow flowers in different seasons. Accordingly, flowers are planted at a certain time to sell to the market in January. At the same time, many households research the market in the province, grow flowers all year round to sell on the 15th and 1st of the lunar month".
