Thanh Chuong district directs to fix the situation of the billion-dollar reservoir's degradation
(Baonghean.vn)- After Nghe An electronic newspaper published the article "Billion-dollar irrigation dam in Thanh Chuong is seriously degraded", Thanh Chuong district directed Thanh Lam commune to soon have solutions to fix some damaged and degraded items of Khe Ngang reservoir to serve rice irrigation.

Mr. Le Dinh Thanh - Vice Chairman of Thanh Chuong District People's Committee said: Currently, Khe Ngang irrigation dam, Thanh Lam commune is meeting the production needs for the spring rice crop. However, for a long time, the project has been deteriorating in some items, especially the valve system that regulates water from the reservoir to irrigate the fields is broken, the valve cannot be opened or closed, affecting the irrigation of rice for the people.

After Nghe An electronic newspaper published the article"The billion-dollar irrigation dam in Thanh Chuong is seriously degraded"Recently, Thanh Chuong district has sent staff from the Economic Infrastructure Department to inspect the current situation and advise the district People's Committee on how to fix some degraded reservoir items. To ensure water for rice irrigation in the commune, the district directed Thanh Lam commune to first take measures to fix the Khe Ngang reservoir's water control valve.
For some degraded items such as the collapsed bottom discharge area, the district continues to assign the Infrastructure Economic Department to survey and find a solution. After agreeing on the solution, the district will combine and arrange funding sources to support Thanh Lam commune to repair the degraded items before this year's storm season.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Ky - Vice Chairman of Thanh Lam Commune People's Committee said: Regarding the Khe Ngang Lake water regulating valve which is currently broken, the commune has proposed a plan to repair it. We will hire a specialized hydraulic technician to re-thread the water regulating valve to open and close the valve smoothly. If the above plan is not successful, the commune will order new water regulating valve system equipment to reinstall it.

The time to repair the water regulating valve will be around May 2023, after the spring rice harvest is almost over. Because at that time the water level in the reservoir will decrease, the weather will not be cold, so the repairmen can carry out the work of repairing the regulating valve to store water for the summer-autumn rice crop.
Khe Ngang Dam started construction in December 2011 and was put into use in September 2012, according to the plan to irrigate two rice crops per year, but in reality it can only irrigate the spring rice crop, while the summer-autumn crop is dry.Faced with the current state of Khe Ngang dam degradation, since 2019, Thanh Lam Commune People's Committee has allocated funds to organize dredging of the dam bed, maintenance of the bottom spillway gate, replacement of bottom spillway gate packing materials, and storage of water for production purposes, but the dam is still not really effective.
Khe Bo Hydropower Plant continues to operate and discharge water from the reservoir.
