Some localities test all three or four subjects; some places also consider admission. Therefore, we request that the Ministry of Education and Training explain this issue to ensure fairness in the admission process.

Responding, Mr. Hoang Minh Son, Deputy Minister of Education and Training, said that the ministry has issued a circular on regulations for junior high school and high school admissions.

The organization of exams or admissions, or a combination of both, is given autonomy to localities to implement, in accordance with the local situation. Thereby, the departments of education and training will advise the People's Committees of provinces and cities to approve the plan, decide on exam subjects, exam formats, exam coefficients, bonus points, etc.

According to Mr. Son, whether it is an entrance exam or an admission test, fairness and trust must be ensured, and then comes the pressure. If it is organized, the pressure will be concentrated on the time for studying and taking the exam. If it is based on the admission test based on academic records, the pressure will be spread out over the school years.

Regarding the localities' choice of the admission form, whether to require 3 or 4 subjects, Deputy Minister Hoang Minh Son said that this is not related to each other. Because this admission method is only implemented in one locality.

"In the locality, when candidates take the same exam to enter the same school, we are concerned about reliability and fairness. Between 3 or 4 subjects, it does not affect much on reliability and fairness" - Mr. Son expressed his opinion.

Is doubling the math and literature score coefficient still appropriate?

Regarding the idea of doubling the coefficient for literature and math scores, which is no longer appropriate, according to Mr. Son, the general education program focuses on comprehensively developing students' abilities.

However, that does not mean taking cultural subjects lightly, especially important subjects like math and literature. The Ministry has stipulated that with the new general education program, there will no longer be an average score calculation, and there will no longer be a subject coefficient to be recorded in the transcript.

Mr. Son said that organizing the entrance exam for grade 10 at high schools and localities must carefully study the situation and requirements of the schools. From there, it is possible to set requirements for math and literature with coefficient 2, and for foreign languages, not all students have the same conditions to study foreign languages.

"The decision to double the two subjects of math and literature also has a basis. It can be considered an entrance requirement, because during the general education process, these two subjects may require more important basic knowledge, so we must study them better. Localities can consider this, especially for specialized schools," said Mr. Son.
