Signs that your car engine is having problems

A standard car when operating should only emit 3 sounds that are considered safe, which are the engine noise, the horn sound and the sound of the entertainment speaker system. The rest of the unusual noises are considered warnings and need to be paid special attention by the car owner as it may be a car engine error.

Unusual noises coming from the engine

Some unusual sounds coming from car engines include a steady and rapid screeching sound when the engine is first started, which is caused by a worn or loose belt.

A dry, clattering sound is caused by the car not being used for a long time, causing the oil to not have time to circulate to all the machine parts. A louder, louder sound is a sign that the engine is lacking lubricating oil, causing the machine parts to rub together and make noise.

The above sounds are all abnormal for vehicles in use; if not checked and fixed by the owner soon, in the long run, it can lead to more serious engine errors that are more difficult to handle.

Unstable engine noise

If the car is running normally and suddenly the engine sounds uneven, the engine vibrates or becomes unstable, it could be a warning sign of a car engine failure.

The advice is to listen to those sounds and "diagnose" based on the criteria of how strong or light the engine vibration is; is the explosion sound stable and smooth, if you accelerate suddenly, does the engine run smoothly or die?

The intermittent engine noise is most likely due to an engine fault. Illustration photo

There are many reasons for the above phenomenon, but mainly due to a number of causes such as dirty air filter, dirty fuel filter, excess or lack of fuel in the car engine, leaking pressure regulator or worn fuel pump, spark plug problems...

Advice for car owners is to try measures such as replacing spark plugs, replacing car ignition coils, checking fuel pressure, cleaning the air flow meter...

The front of the car shakes when moving

Feeling the car shake for no apparent reason can also be a warning sign of an abnormal problem. When the front of the car shakes, the driver should pay attention to the following issues:

If the vibrations are regular and consistent, even when idling, it could be due to the elements that attach the chassis to the engine. The solution is to check the engine mounts, if the shock absorbers such as the rubber joints are cracked or broken, it means it is time to replace these parts.

If the vibrations occur in rhythm, irregularly, it may be due to one or more cylinders not working, causing the engine to lose power (weak engine). In this case, it is necessary to check the ignition system components such as spark plugs, ignition and high voltage wires.

The car consumes more fuel than usual.

There are many reasons why the engine consumes more fuel than usual such as: worn tires, road characteristics, vehicle load, brake and accelerator habits, etc. If these reasons are excluded, an abnormal increase in fuel consumption can also be a warning sign of a car engine failure, especially the fuel processing unit.

Unusual fuel consumption by cars causes many car owners to have a "pain in the wallet" and needs to be checked and handled as soon as possible.

It is recommended that you have your vehicle serviced regularly to check the fuel handling part of the engine. This includes changing the engine oil, cleaning the engine air filter and other parts...

Engine oil warning light is on

When the engine lubricating oil pressure indicator light with the oil tank symbol is lit on the dashboard, the driver should stop the vehicle immediately. This means that at that time the amount of lubricating oil in the engine is very low, unable to lubricate the parts, or the second reason is due to a broken oil pump.

Whatever the cause of lack of oil is, it is very dangerous because it can cause machine parts (connecting rod, piston, cylinder, crankshaft...) to scratch each other, causing scratches, wear and tear and overheating.

Insufficient lubrication can lead to total engine damage, which can be very expensive to repair. It is recommended to check the amount of lubricant in the engine using a dipstick or other means.
