Nghe An: Schools speed up test preparation, parents eagerly await instructions for 10th grade admission
(Baonghean.vn)- According to the decision recently issued by the Provincial People's Committee, this year's 10th grade entrance exam will be held on June 5-6 with 3 subjects: Math, Literature and Foreign Language (English - French).
Speed up your review
The 10th grade entrance exam always receives attention from parents and schools. This year, the exam is basically stable in terms of the number of subjects and organization. That also helps schools be more proactive in the review process and orientation for students.
This is also the second year Nghe An has applied a coefficient of 1 to all subjects, so candidates are not too surprised. Previously, in the first year of implementation, applying only one coefficient to all three subjects of Math, Literature and Foreign Language did not change the entrance scores of schools too much.
The early issuance of the Decision on the 10th grade entrance exam by the Provincial People's Committee has created more favorable conditions for schools to organize teaching and learning and to proactively orient students.review.

Talking about this, teacher Nguyen Thi Le Hang - Principal of Vinh Tan Secondary School (Vinh City) said: Currently, after the Provincial People's Committee has announced the exam subjects, I think the pressure on 9th grade students is less, because they will have more time to focus on the three official exam subjects. We still organize normal teaching for the remaining subjects to ensure the program, helping students develop comprehensively.
This school year, Vinh Tan Secondary School has 4 9th grade classes with more than 150 students. Compared to other secondary schools in Vinh city, the quality of the school's students is uneven and quite low. That also significantly affects the choice of enrolling in high schools. As in previous years, nearly 30% of the school's students will voluntarily be transferred to vocational schools and non-public schools. Of the remaining students, very few will enroll in specialized schools or top schools. Many students choose to enroll in schools on the outskirts of the city in Hung Nguyen and Nghi Loc districts to increase their chances of admission. To make it easier for students to review, it is expected that after students finish their mid-term exams, the school will speed up review for 9th graders in the afternoons. Instead of studying 5 subjects as before, students will now only study 3 subjects: Math, Literature and English.

At Thanh Thinh Secondary School (Thanh Chuong), student Nguyen Dinh Duc - class 9A is aiming to take the entrance exam to Thanh Chuong 1 High School. From before Tet until now, through the LMS system ofDepartment of Education and TrainingDuc logged in 8 times to take the tests in three subjects: Math, Literature, and English and was quite satisfied when his highest score in Math was 9.5 points and in English was 8 points.
Preparing for the upcoming exam, this male student said: I am quite worried about the 10th grade entrance exam. However, the fact that the province still keeps the exam basically the same as previous years makes me quite assured and continue to review for the exam according to the schedule. Currently, in addition to studying and reviewing in the afternoon at school, I have registered to take extra Math and English lessons with a teacher in town.
As a 9th grade Math teacher and also the school's Vice Principal, Mr. Dau Duc Trung said: The quality of Thanh Thinh Secondary School cannot be compared to that of central schools. Therefore, during this time, we have to "speed up" the exam preparation for students. First, after the mid-term test results, we will differentiate to prepare for the right subjects, ensuring that students can both grasp basic knowledge and improve for those who register for top schools. In the coming time, we will also increase practice tests so that students can get familiar with the exam questions, avoiding confusion when entering the official exam.

Last week, the Department of Education and Training of Thanh Chuong district also organized a workshop on “Improving the quality of admission to grade 10 high school” with the participation of leaders and heads of secondary schools in the district. According to Mr. Tran Xuan Ha - Head of the Department of Education and Training of Thanh Chuong district: The workshop is organized for school principals to fulfill their commitments on quality assurance and improving the overall quality of grade 10 admission. From this school year, the results of grade 10 admission will also be included in the competition criteria to improve the quality of teaching and learning in schools.
Previously, Thanh Chuong district was considered one of the seven districts with the highest 10th grade entrance exam results in the province. However, according to the district's assessment, the number of students with high scores is not much and not commensurate with the potential. Meanwhile, because the district has 7 high schools with a high admission rate, students are quite subjective when taking the 10th grade entrance exam, leading to low quality.
Waiting for admission instructions
In preparation for the 10th grade entrance exam, Mr. Le Van Viet, whose child is studying at a secondary school in Vinh city, sent his child to take the exam to obtain an IELTS certificate. However, with only a result of 5.5, he is still not really assured because up to this point, there is still no specific plan for admission based on foreign language certificates.
Talking about his concerns, he said: In 2022, Huynh Thuc Khang High School will directly admit students with IELTS certificates of 5.5 or higher. However, students need to achieve an entrance exam score of 22.6 or higher, a fairly high score. This year, the province changed the admission method and used secondary criteria such as academic records. I am worried about how this method will calculate scores and if my child's academic records are not very good, it will greatly affect the admission process.

Regarding the plan for the 10th grade entrance exam this year, teacher Nguyen Thi Huyen Nga - Vice Principal of Ha Huy Tap Secondary School (Vinh City) said that compared to previous years, the regulations on organizing the 10th grade entrance exam have not changed much. Therefore, not only up to this point but for many months now, the school has been proactively reviewing for students and will speed up further in the last 2 months of the semester. From this week, we will have to change the plan from the beginning, focusing more on practicing types of questions to help students review effectively and closely to the exam.
Regarding the upcoming exam, teacher Nguyen Thi Huyen Nga also said that she is currently “waiting for each school’s separate admission plan and the Department of Education and Training’s instructions for admission to grade 10”. Accordingly, what schools, parents and students are concerned about is how many schools are currently considering second-choice admissions, and what the admission criteria for advanced classes are like “to avoid the rather confusing situation like last year”.

Specifically, like last year, in order to have a chance to be admitted to the advanced class, many students registered for NV2 at schools far from the center. Therefore, after the admission results were available, many schools had to contact Ha Huy Tap Secondary School (Vinh City) to confirm whether or not the students were admitted.
Meanwhile, because it is summer vacation, it is difficult for schools to contact students to support high schools in "finding" candidates. According to teacher Huyen Nga, the criteria for "passing NV2" to be considered for admission to advanced classes is quite formal. Instead, the Department and high schools need to propose asymptotic criteria, based on the 10th grade entrance exam scores, or the admission scores based on academic records to make it more convenient for candidates and schools.
Regarding the 10th grade entrance exam, after the Provincial People's Committee issues the Decision, the Department of Education and Training will consider to soon issue documents guiding admission, admission plans for some special classes and propose the structure of the 10th grade exam subjects and specialized exam subjects.
