Russia creates special submarine fleet carrying new strategic nuclear weapons
(Baonghean.vn) - TASS news agency reported on April 3 that Russia plans to establish a specialized submarine fleet to carry nuclear-capable Poseidon torpedoes, as part of the country's Pacific Fleet by the end of 2024 or the first half of 2025.
"The decision to create a specialized nuclear submarine unit in Kamchatka has been made. We are talking about a time around December 2024 or the first half of 2025," a defense source told TASS.

Russia said in January it had produced its first batch of Poseidon torpedoes, four years after President Vladimir Putin unveiled the new strategic nuclear weapon, saying it would have its own nuclear power source.
In late March, Russia said coastal infrastructure for Poseidon submarines would be completed on the Kamchatka Peninsula, where the Russian Pacific Fleet's ballistic missile nuclear submarine base is located.
There is little public information about Poseidon, but military experts say the weapon is essentially a combination of a traditional torpedo and an underwater drone that can be launched from a nuclear submarine. TASS said the Poseidon is designed to be deployed on Russia's Belgorod and Khabarovsk nuclear submarines./.
