(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of April 6, the Provincial People's Committee held a reception for the delegation of the Belgian Minister of State for Asylum and Migration who was visiting and working in Nghe An.

The delegation of the Kingdom of Belgium was led by Ms. Nicole de Moor - Secretary of State for Asylum and Migration of the Kingdom of Belgium. Accompanying them were Mr. Karl Van den Bossche - Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to Vietnam and a number of members from a number of agencies and units of the Kingdom of Belgium.

On the side of Nghe An province, comrade Bui Dinh Long - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee directly welcomed and received the delegation of the State Secretary for Asylum and Migration of the Kingdom of Belgium; together with leaders of a number of provincial departments and branches.

He affirmed that the visit is of special significance at a time when Vietnam and the Kingdom of Belgium are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the Kingdom of Belgium (March 22, 1973 - March 22, 2023).

In Nghe An, the Kingdom of Belgium has cooperated to support investment, such as supporting locomotives and wagons to serve railway traffic after peace was restored, restoring railway traffic. Recently, it supported investment in the Cua Lo town drainage and wastewater treatment system project with a total investment of more than 20 million EUR, of which Belgium's ODA loan capital is more than 9.5 million EUR.

Regarding trade cooperation, Nghe An has exported a number of products, mainly steel, shoes, sandals, and textiles to Belgium. In 2022 alone, the export turnover reached more than 27.5 thousand USD.

Goods imported from Belgium to Nghe An market are animal feed products, raw materials and chemicals with a turnover of 338.5 thousand USD.

The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee informed the delegation of the Kingdom of Belgium about some characteristics of natural conditions and socio-economic situation of Nghe An province. Comrade Bui Dinh Long hoped that after the visit and working session in Nghe An province of the Secretary of State and the Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium and the delegation, the cooperation between the Kingdom of Belgium and Vietnam in general, and between the Kingdom of Belgium and Nghe An in particular, would be strengthened and promoted, especially attracting Belgian FDI projects, as currently there are no Belgian FDI projects invested in Nghe An province.

At the same time, the provincial leaders requested the Belgian side to increase support to promote trade activities; labor export; especially support propaganda and training activities to raise awareness among people and local authorities about the fight against illegal migration and human trafficking.

Speaking at the reception, Ms. Nicole de Moor - Secretary of State for Asylum and Migration of the Kingdom of Belgium expressed her joy and honor in her first trip to Vietnam, to set foot in Nghe An province - the hometown of President Ho Chi Minh and to be warmly welcomed.

Ms. Nicole de Moor also shared that currently in the Kingdom of Belgium there is a community of about 8,500 Vietnamese people living and working with many students studying at schools.

Expressing her excitement at participating in a communication session on preventing human trafficking and safe migration among students at Nguyen Duy Trinh High School, Nghi Loc District, Ms. Nicole de Moor affirmed that the two sides will cooperate in communication, equipping knowledge and skills for people, especially the young generation, creating opportunities for people to have jobs domestically and abroad, especially ensuring safe and legal migration.
