According to the Government Electronic Information Portal, after 3 weeks of working and exploring caves in the Phong Nha Ke Bang area, Tuyen Hoa district and Minh Hoa district (Quang Binh), on April 13, the Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park Management Board announced that BCRA and explorers from the UK, Australia, and New Zealand had discovered 22 new caves with a total length of 11.7 km.

Specifically, 20 caves were discovered in Lam Hoa commune (Tuyen Hoa district) and Hoa Phuc commune, Hoa Son commune (Minh Hoa district) and the remaining 2 caves were discovered in Phong Nha Ke Bang area.

"These caves are mostly wet caves. They are small caves but quite interesting, especially compared to many caves we have found in Quang Binh," said Mr. Howard Limbert, BCRA Cave Exploration Team Leader.

The captain added that while Son Doong, En Cave and many other caves only have one main entrance, this new cave system has many different entrances.

Some of the caves are interconnected, creating many horizontal passages that make for interesting walks around the interior.

However, to exploit tourism activities in the newly discovered caves, explorers, scientists and authorities in Quang Binh will check the safety, flow, geomorphology and geology of these caves.

Previously, from March 12 to March 16, the expedition also discovered 5 more wet caves, some with dry branches, with a total length of 3,349 m.
