Nghe An is located in the center of the North Central region, with the largest area in the country. Nghe An is a locality that is often strongly affected by natural disasters; the longest border in the country is 468.2km;...

Therefore, Nghe An Provincial Party Secretary Thai Thanh Quy said that, along with focusing on economic development in the Eastern region as a driving force, the province always pays special attention to social security issues for the poor and disadvantaged; policies for ethnic minorities and mountainous areas, mainly focusing on the Western region.

Accordingly, Nghe An focuses on implementing 5 policies managed and directed by the Government Committee for Ethnic Minorities and programs and policies managed and directed by other ministries and branches in a systematic and proper manner, ensuring that the policies reach the people.

In addition, at the provincial level, Nghe An also pays great attention to social security work and care for the poor. For 10 consecutive years, the province has organized the Tet for the poor program, with a total budget of over 720 billion, of which 131 billion in 2023 alone, ensuring that each poor household receives a gift worth at least 500,000 VND. In the period of 2020 - 2022, the whole province mobilized, built and repaired nearly 4,500 houses, with a total budget of nearly 173 billion VND.

However, currently, the whole province still has 55,348 poor households (6.41% of the population) and 53,571 near-poor households (6.20% of the population), of which over 15,000 households are in need of housing construction and repair. Therefore, Nghe An is aiming to basically eliminate temporary housing by the end of 2025 (including building 9,200 new houses and repairing 6,100 houses), "helping the poor and disadvantaged people to soon settle down and make a living".
