Having been in the costume rental business for nearly 5 years, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thao Hien, owner of a shop on Hermann Gmeiner Street (Vinh City) said: “Previously, fashion rental services were only popular in some big cities. In Vinh City, the main business was renting ao dai and performance costumes, but people did not have the habit of renting costumes for going out.

However, due to its convenience and savings, renting costumes for events and travel has become a common trend. Especially during the April 30 and May 1 holidays this year, the number of customers renting beach dresses, family and group uniforms is very large.

The holiday season is long, tourism is on the rise, so the demand for renting travel gear is increasing. In addition to individuals, there are also many groups and collectives renting the same models in large quantities.

Although the number of customers increases during the holidays, to stimulate consumption, costume rental prices do not increase; many shops also have a 10% discount promotion when renting in groups of 3-5 people or more; or free accessories.

Accordingly, the rental price of dresses, clothes, and swimsuits ranges from 80,000 - 100,000 VND/item/day; accessories such as hats, glasses, and bags cost from 20,000 - 50,000 VND/item.

Designer dresses, branded dresses for parties, evening gowns, etc. are more expensive, ranging from 200,000 - 250,000 VND/day. Family and group uniforms are cheaper, from 50,000 - 80,000 VND/day...

Ms. Tran Tu Linh, a customer, said: “Beach dresses and going out dresses are only worn 1-2 times a year, so spending a lot of money to buy them is a waste, and it is not trendy. Meanwhile, for each trip, just spending a few hundred thousand to rent clothes will give you many outfits from swimsuits, party dresses, street dresses, etc. For the past two years, on holidays, my group of friends and I have chosen to rent clothes for our trips to save money.”

In addition to the issue of saving money when renting clothes to go out instead of buying new clothes, recently, social networking sites such as Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok,... are becoming a strong development wave. Many people, especially young people, are increasingly interested in and take care of their image, they do not want to repeat an outfit every time they appear on their personal page. Therefore, renting clothes is chosen by many people, thereby contributing to the development of costume rental services.

Grasping the trends, tastes and needs of customers, in recent years, costume rental shops in Vinh city have appeared more and more with diverse designs, all segments serving many different customer groups. According to unspecified statistics, currently, the whole city has about 12-15 shops specializing in renting costumes for going out. To attract customers, costume rental shops regularly update new products, diverse fashion styles, following the "trend" and being favored by customers.

Maxi dresses are popular at beachwear rental shops; made of chiffon, silk, lace, long and flowing, in monochrome tones, or with tropical floral patterns, ombre (gradual color gradient from light to dark)...

The designs are also very diverse: halter neck, puff sleeves, bustier, off-the-shoulder or cutout (dresses with cutouts at the bust, waist, open back and slits). Besides that, there are bohemian (also known as boho) dresses and shirts with a liberal, modern style with soft, airy linen materials... very suitable for traveling and going to the beach.

"The rental procedure is also quite simple, customers can go directly to the store to try on clothes, or search on social networks, then choose a model, agree to rent, deposit money and send recipient information, the store will deliver to the door. Not only customers in Vinh City, but now, many people from districts and towns in the province also rent clothes online," said Ms. Cam Nhung, a costume rental shop owner.

This service brings many benefits to consumers, especially in difficult economic times like today.
