Now I just need to bring my ID card, I give it to the medical staff to scan and it's done. It's very good that if I lose or damage my health insurance card, I don't need to reissue it."

Information from the Northwest Regional General Hospital: From 2022, to implement health insurance examination and treatment using chip-embedded citizen identification cards, the hospital has invested in technical infrastructure, information technology, transmission lines, computer networks, provided software, chip-embedded citizen identification card readers... The hospital placed two readers in the examination department, and at the same time, arranged staff on duty to support people.

Ms. Dam Thanh Thuy, Head of the Social Work Team, Northwest Regional General Hospital shared: Every day, the hospital examines and treats 700 - 1,200 patients. Therefore, the implementation of using chip-embedded citizen identification cards in health insurance examination and treatment helps patients reduce a lot of waiting time as well as bring many benefits to the hospital.

When scanning the QR code on the chip-embedded citizen ID card, all information about the patient's identity is displayed on the hospital's medical examination and treatment software. The reception staff does not need to exploit additional information, thereby shortening the registration time as well as avoiding errors.

With the benefits it brings, at this time, all medical units in Nghe An province have deployed the use of chip-embedded citizen identification cards in health insurance examination and treatment. Doctor Pham Dinh Luyen - Director of Quy Hop District Medical Center stated: Using chip-embedded citizen identification cards in health insurance examination and treatment is a big step forward in reforming administrative procedures. Instead of spending time on paperwork, people will have access to medical services more quickly, improving the quality of health insurance examination and treatment services.

In addition, using a chip-embedded citizen identification card also avoids the situation where patients use someone else's health insurance card to register for health insurance examination and treatment.

The chip-embedded citizen identification card, also known as the e-ID electronic identification card, is a type of personal identification document, replacing the old identity card and barcode citizen identification card. The chip-embedded citizen identification card acts as a device used to identify and authenticate the identity of an individual and can be used to access and look up information of the citizen owner on the national population database system. Currently, the electronic identification card has been integrated with many convenient services on insurance, banking, driver's license, household registration book and many important personal documents to help citizens carry out administrative procedures easily, accurately and effectively.

Citizens can use their chip-embedded citizen identification cards to examine and receive medical treatment at health insurance medical examination and treatment facilities nationwide. Therefore, if they have been issued a chip-embedded citizen identification card, patients only need to bring their citizen identification card, without having to bring a paper health insurance card and other personal documents when going for medical examination and treatment, and still be entitled to health insurance benefits. When going for medical examination and treatment, patients present their chip-embedded citizen identification cards to medical staff to scan the QR code to check information and complete medical examination and treatment procedures according to the correct process.
