(Baonghean.vn) - Martial artist Nguyen Thanh Liem successfully defended his gold medal in the 32nd SEA Games in the men's 60kg category of Vovinam. Notably, despite having a fever of 39 degrees, he still steadfastly defeated his opponents.

Boxer Nguyen Thanh Liem entered the men's 60kg weight class at Chroy Changvar Stadium in a disadvantageous situation, but he was still determined to compete to reach the final match against boxer Cantores of the Philippines.

Thanh Liem even won the final match against the Philippines representative with a score of 9-1 to bring home another Gold Medal for the Vietnamese Sports Delegation. Thus, Thanh Liem also successfully defended his championship title at the 31st SEA Games.

Before that, he participated in the tournament in Cambodia as the defending champion at the 31st SEA Games. This victory also had great significance for Thanh Liem because few people knew that before entering the final match, the boxer born in 1997 had a fever of 39 degrees Celsius. However, he was still determined to suppress his illness and overcome difficulties to bring glory to his country.

Sharing after the impressive achievement, Thanh Liem said: "I am very happy to be a son of Ho Chi Minh City contributing to the overall achievement of the Vietnamese sports delegation at the 32nd SEA Games. Since I got sick, although I was very tired, I only thought that I had come here, I still had to try my best to bring home a gold medal for myself and the country's sports."

Also on May 7, female boxer Do Phuong Thao defeated representative from Thailand Kesinee Tabtrai with a score of 8-5 in the final match of the women's 60kg fighting event, thereby excellently winning the Gold Medal.

In addition, the Vietnamese Vovinam team also brought home 4 more Silver Medals in the performance categories.

InSEA Games 32, Vietnam Vovinam competes in 4 men's combat events, 4 women's combat events and 22 performance events. Vietnam Vovinam aims to win 7 Gold Medals, 1 more than SEA Games 31.

On the first day of competition (May 6), the Vietnamese Vovinam team also won a Gold Medal from female martial artist Le Thi Hien in the women's 55kg combat event./.
