(Baonghean.vn) - Authorities of Nghe An province have launched a campaign to inspect and review the sale of products of unknown origin and unsafe food hygiene, especially in front of school gates.

Accordingly, the working group made a record of confiscating 50kg of goods, mainly candies sold at shops in front of schools. These candies have unknown origins, invoices, expired, and are eye-catching, easily attracting the attention of students.

Mr. Nguyen Van Vien - Vice Chairman of Thanh Chuong Town People's Committee said: In the town, there are about 15 grocery stores in front of school gates. Because the children are young, curious, and have limited knowledge to distinguish these potentially toxic items, they often buy and use them. After the inspection, the locality made a record and signed a commitment with the store owner. The seller was also aware of the violation and pledged not to import substandard goods.

"The confiscated items will be destroyed in the presence of students. In addition, the locality also recommends that schools increase propaganda for students. If restaurants continue to re-offend, they will be severely punished according to regulations," Mr. Vien emphasized.

Not only Thanh Chuong district but also other localities such as Dien Chau, Vinh city... have recently simultaneously launched inspections of food safety and hygiene issues in front of school gates.

In Dien Chau district, since the beginning of May, communes have simultaneously launched inspections and confiscated goods of unknown origin such as: Dien Lien, Dien Lam, Dien Hanh, Dien Ky, Dien Hoang... with the total amount of goods seized reaching hundreds of kilograms.

Mr. Dau Xuan Truong - Chairman of People's Committee of Dien Ky communesaid: The issue of food safety and hygiene is currently causing much concern in society. Therefore, since the beginning of the year, the locality has organized many campaigns, including all forces such as leaders of the People's Committee, Commune Police, health and cultural officials... to simultaneously inspect grocery stores in the area. On May 11, the inspection team discovered many items of unknown origin, cheap prices, potentially containing toxic substances to consumers, especially children.

After the confiscation, the inspection team of Dien Ky commune directly organized visual propaganda at schools in the area so that students could recognize unsafe goods and the harmful effects of eating unsanitary food. These goods were then destroyed according to regulations.

In reality, many parents are busy with work so they often give their children money to buy food at school without any control, not knowing what their children buy, potentially causing many risks of food safety. Therefore, the fact that localities increase regular inspections of this issue to help ensure the safety of children is supported by many people.
