Chinese market "buys" strongly, dragon fruit price reaches 42,000 VND/kg

During the transitional season, while the Chinese market is "buying" strongly, the price of dragon fruit at gardens is very high, 42,000 VND/kg.

For white-fleshed dragon fruit, the current price is over 20,000 VND/kg. With the current price, dragon fruit growers earn large profits. Because currently, the cost of growing dragon fruit under lights will be around 15,000 VND/kg, and if grown in the right season, the price is around 10,000 VND/kg.

The current selling price is also on par with the price near the Lunar New Year 2023. Along with Long An, currently, gardeners in Tien Giang province sell red-fleshed dragon fruit (grade 1) for nearly 40,000 VND/kg, grade 2, grade 3 for 30,000 - 33,000 VND/kg. This is the highest price in the past few years.

China "buys heavily", dragon fruit price reaches 42,000 VND/kg.

At this price, each kilogram of dragon fruit brings in a profit of 15,000 - 20,000 VND. Tien Giang province has nearly 10,000 hectares of commercial dragon fruit. However, only 10 - 15% of the orchards have fruit for harvest. According to gardeners, about 1 month later, dragon fruit will enter its peak harvest season.

According to gardeners, the reason why dragon fruit prices are high is because China is "buying" heavily, while in Vietnam, dragon fruit is in the transitional season and there is a shortage of supply.

Regarding the forecast of dragon fruit prices in the coming time, it is unlikely to increase further because dragon fruit is currently preparing to enter the main season.

Currently, Vietnamese dragon fruit has been exported to more than 15 countries and territories. In addition to traditional markets such as China, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnamese dragon fruit has also penetrated demanding markets such as the US, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, and Australia. Previously, Vietnamese dragon fruit held a monopoly in the international market, accounting for 80-90% of transactions.

However, data from the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) shows that in the first two months of 2023, dragon fruit exports reached nearly 106 million USD, down 26.9% over the same period in 2022. The reason is that there are currently many countries participating in dragon fruit production, making the market increasingly competitive.

A few days ago, some Facebook account holders advertised Thanh Ha litchis for sale. However, according to the local leader, Thanh Ha currently has no litchis. The litchis being advertised on social networks may be from Dak Lak, Quang Ninh or some other localities that usually ripen first, looking very similar to Thanh Ha litchis. Thanh Ha white litchis are the earliest to ripen but the outer skin has not yet turned red, it is expected to be harvested sporadically around May 19, when ripe it has a fragrant, sweet taste, does not wet the hands when peeling, and has thick flesh.

This year, lychee growers have had a hard time due to the erratic weather, causing a lot of lychee to fall.
