(Baonghean.vn) - It is expected that in May 2023, the electricity consumption in Nghe An will reach 436 million kWh. This is a record number in recent years.

Data from Nghe An Electricity Company shows that in May 2023, the time of the eventscorching heatprolonged, electricity consumption in the province increased dramatically.

As of May 26, electricity consumption reached 365 million kWh, and is expected to reach 436 million kWh by the end of May, a record number in many years (For example, in June 2022, the peak hot month last year, the province's electricity consumption reached 393 million kWh).

On the highest day in May 2023, the province's total electricity consumption reached 17.72 million kWh, equal to 128% of the highest daily output in May 2022.

The localities with the highest electricity consumption include: Vinh City, Quynh Luu, Nghi Loc, Dien Chau... These are areas with high population density, many businesses, commercial centers, industrial parks, and factories.

The reason for the record high electricity consumption in recent times is mainly due to the prolonged hot weather, increasing demand for electrical equipment.

A representative of Nghe An Electricity Company said that in the coming time, when the hot weather continues, there is a risk of a complete power shortage.

Operating the power system during the peak hot months (May, June and July) will be very difficult, in particular, the Northern power system will face a situation of not being able to meet the peak load of the system, with the largest capacity shortage ranging from 1,600 MW to 4,900 MW.

It is expected that in 2023, due to extremely hot weather, the water flow to hydroelectric reservoirs will decrease, so the risk of power shortages will continue to occur. There will be a shortage of power on extremely hot days in the summer (from May to August). With a high load growth scenario (15%), the entire Northern power system will have to reduce 1,000 - 2,400 MW.

For Nghe An, it will have to reduce from 53 - 124MW out of the total capacity of the entire Nghe An province, expected from 920MW - 950MW, during the time frames from 11:00-16:00 and from 20:30 to 24:00 on hot days when the temperature is above 38 degrees Celsius. The electricity consumption on hot days is expected to reach approximately 17.5 million kWh in the whole province, while the allocated output only meets about 90%. The risk of power shortage is present.

People and units need to use electricity safely and effectively, turn off unnecessary devices, use electricity reasonably and apply thorough electricity-saving solutions in daily life as well as in economic and social activities./.
