Hackers hacked over 500 people's Facebook accounts, scamming them out of money to play games and buy Bitcoin.
The perpetrators hacked the Facebook accounts of over 500 people and impersonated the victims to scam and steal a total of nearly 5 billion VND.
On the morning of June 21, the Criminal Police Department of Da Nang City Police announced that they are temporarily detaining Nguyen Quang Duc (born in 1995), Tran Le Quang Vu (born in 1996), Le Phuoc Thanh (born in 1987), and Nguyen Xuan Dung (born in 1987), all residing in Quang Tri province, for investigation and prosecution regarding the crime of fraud and appropriation of property.
Previously, the Criminal Police Department of Da Nang received reports from several victims about their Facebook accounts being hacked and taken over by fraudsters. These fraudsters then impersonated the victims to message and contact their friends and family members in order to scam them out of money. After verification, the Criminal Police Department determined that the incident showed signs of the crime of "Using computer networks, telecommunication networks, and electronic means to commit acts of property appropriation," and therefore assigned detectives to gather information and identify the suspected perpetrators.

Through investigative measures, the Da Nang City Police have initially identified the four aforementioned individuals as being involved in multiple cases.hack Facebookand defrauded hundreds of victims, so a special investigation was launched to track them down.
Through questioning, the suspects confessed that from October 2022 to the present, they had hacked more than 500 Facebook accounts and defrauded hundreds of victims nationwide, appropriating nearly 5 billion VND. The stolen money was used for online gaming and Bitcoin trading.
The police also summoned TVL (born in 1993, residing in Ban Gian commune, Lap Thach district, Vinh Phuc province) for questioning. He was a key figure in the buying and selling of Bitcoin, helping the fraudsters launder money.
