Woman uses excuse of raising small child alone to traffic opium

On June 21, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a trial of defendant Nguyen Thi Chien (born 1982), residing in Bao Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district, for the crime of "Illegal trading of narcotics".drug".
According to the indictment, around the end of August 2022, while on his way to his mother's house, Chien met a woman named Hoa pushing a motorbike because she had run out of gas. This person called Chien and asked to borrow 100,000 VND to buy gas. Because he did not have any money with him, Chien told this person to go to his house to get the money.

In early November 2022, Hoa came to Chien's house and asked if he wanted to buy drugs. Chien ordered a package of pink heroin for 4.5 million VND.
Early in the morning of November 17, Hoa gave Chien 17 packages of opium. Seeing the large amount of drugs, Chien told Hoa that if he did not have enough money, the seller would let him delay the payment.
With the above drugs, Chien divided them into many small packages, hid them in many locations in the house to gradually sell to customers.
This woman's crime was exposed on November 20, 2022. That afternoon, when Chien was holding heroin in a cigarette pack to sell to customers for 1 million VND, she was caught red-handed by the police.
Searching Nguyen Thi Chien’s residence, the police discovered many packages of drugs hidden in the yard, bedroom and in a handbag. The authorities determined that Chien must bear criminal responsibility for buying and selling more than 300 grams of drugs.
At the trial, the defendant admitted to trading drugs for greed. The female defendant cried and complained about her difficult circumstances, having divorced her husband and raising her child alone, asking the court to consider reducing her sentence.
After considering aggravating and mitigating circumstances, the court sentenced defendant Nguyen Thi Chien to 20 years in prison for illegal drug trafficking.
Regarding the woman named Hoa, the investigation agency conducted verification based on Chien's statement but had no results so there was no basis for prosecution.
