What causes a car to stop suddenly while moving?

Here are 12 common reasons why your car might suddenly stop while driving.

1. Out of gas

Always check your fuel level before you set off. This can save you a lot of time and potentially negative situations. If your car shuts off with a full or reasonable fuel tank, your fuel gauge may be faulty.

2. Battery problem

The battery in your car helps your car start, it also helps run the electronics in your car, such as the windows, doors and spark plugs. If the battery fails or runs out, your car can suddenly stop while you are driving. So, you should keep in mind how long a car battery lasts, as they usually only last about 3 years.

3. Generator problem

The alternator charges the battery and provides additional electrical power to the vehicle's electrical system. If your vehicle's alternator fails, your vehicle may stall, creating a potentially dangerous situation.

4. Wrong fuel

Be careful what fuel you put in your car. Putting the wrong fuel in your car can damage your engine and make it impossible to start.

5. Pressure regulator failure

The pressure regulator is responsible for maintaining a stable fuel pressure in the distributors. When the pressure reducing valve fails, the fuel pressure will change (pressure is too low or too high).

This will directly affect engine capacity and also cause the vehicle to suddenly stall.

When the pressure regulator valve is damaged, the engine will lose power, accelerate poorly, smoke black smoke and consume more fuel... The way to handle a damaged pressure regulator valve is to replace the pressure regulator valve as soon as possible to avoid further damage and ensure safety when using the vehicle.

6. Clogged fuel filter

The fuel filter is responsible for preventing dirt and impurities from entering the fuel before it enters the engine. After a long period of operation, the fuel filter becomes too dirty, causing the fuel to not flow into the engine properly. This causes the vehicle to suddenly stop while rolling.

When the fuel filter is clogged, the car will have certain symptoms that you can recognize such as: the engine heats up quickly, the car is sluggish, and fuel consumption is faster than before. If this situation is not resolved quickly, the engine will become weaker and weaker and eventually die when pressing the accelerator pedal hard.

It is difficult for car owners to determine the exact cause. Therefore, the best way is to take the car to the garage to check and replace the fuel filter.

7. Clogged fuel injector

The injector has the task of spraying fuel into the combustion chamber so that the combustion of the air-fuel mixture can take place. After a long time of operation, dirt will stick to the injector. If it is not cleaned for a long time, it will lead to clogging.

When the injector is clogged, the amount of fuel entering the combustion chamber is not enough. As a result, the speed, size and timing of fuel injection will not be accurate. This affects the fuel combustion process.

The most obvious sign of this error is when accelerating, the engine runs weak or the car suddenly dies. Take the car to an auto repair center to clean the injector. If the injector is too dirty, it must be replaced.

8. Cooling system failure

One of the reasons why the car suddenly stalls may be due to a problem with the cooling system. The cause may be due to a lack of coolant. In addition, when the condenser has the following errors, it will also lead to similar phenomena such as: Broken water pump, clogged radiator, broken fan, leaking pipes, broken welds, broken thermostat valve...

When your car's cooling system fails, the most common sign is a rapid increase in engine temperature, which you can tell by looking at the temperature gauge. At the same time, the engine will run less efficiently and make strange knocking noises.

This is a pretty serious problem that needs to be addressed as soon as possible. Otherwise, the engine surface will be deformed, and in more serious cases, the car will stall, and eventually the car will suddenly stall.

If you notice a rapid increase in engine temperature, stop and park the car in a cool, safe place. Then, turn off all electrical devices in the car such as the air conditioner, wait for the engine to cool down, then open the hood to check. If you notice that the coolant is empty, refill it. Then take the car to a car repair garage for a specific inspection.

9. Idle valve failure

The vacuum valve plays a role in adjusting the circulation cross-section of the air duct depending on the engine's operating mechanism. When the idle valve is clogged with dirt, it affects the engine's idle mode.

When the exhaust valve is faulty, when the vehicle is idling, the engine is jerking, the vehicle is accelerating or the engine suddenly stops while idling. In this case, clean the idle valve or replace it if necessary.

10. Faulty ignition coil or spark plugs

For the combustion process in the combustion chamber to take place, three elements must be respected: fuel, air and spark.

The spark will be created by the ignition system. The ignition system on a car consists of two main parts: the ignition coil and the spark plug. If one of these two parts fails to ignite, or the spark is weak, or the ignition timing is incorrect. This will affect the combustion process of the air-fuel mixture, causing the car to stall.

When the ignition coil or spark plug on the car has a problem, the car engine will show some of the following signs: Weak engine, vibration, hard to start, engine does not start, vibration, engine error light Check Bright engine... Therefore, it is necessary to check and clean the entire ignition system. If the spark plug is damaged, it must be replaced.

11. Oil problem

Using poor quality oil, expired oil, lack of oil… will affect the ability to lubricate the parts inside the engine. This causes the engine to overheat quickly and cause the vehicle to suddenly die.

In addition to lubricating, engine oil also has a cooling function. If the vehicle runs out of oil, the oil is degraded, etc., the internal parts of the engine will not be cooled effectively, causing the engine temperature to increase.

When the engine temperature is high, the engine oil pressure warning light on the instrument cluster will come on. If the vehicle is low on oil, it is necessary to add more oil. If the oil is degraded, the old oil must be drained and replaced with new oil.

12. High pressure pump/fuel pump failure

The car's high-pressure pump is responsible for pumping fuel into the combustion chamber through the nozzle, to carry out the fuel combustion process. Thus, if the high-pressure pump is damaged, the combustion process will not take place normally. This error is also one of the errors that can cause the car to stall in the middle of the road during operation.

Fuel pumps are usually located inside the fuel tank, making them difficult to detect. But if the pump gets hot or is not working efficiently, the engine will become hotter and noisier than normal.

Check and repair as soon as possible. If the pump is severely damaged, replace it with a new one.
