The cracked runway at Vinh airport is expected to be fixed by the evening of July 3.
(Baonghean.vn) - After the runway crack incident, Vinh International Airport reported to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam and developed a plan to ensure flight operations resume as soon as possible.
Speaking to Nghe An Newspaper reporters, Mr. Hoang Van Thu - Director of Vinh International Airport confirmed that the runway crack caused flights to be unable to take off and land at Vinh airport from 9:35 a.m. on July 3 until the problem is fixed.
"The crack and peeling point is about 8 meters long, right at the turning point of the planes. When the planes roll for takeoff, it creates a large compressive force, combined with the prolonged heat of the past time, causing the runway at this point to crack," Mr. Thu emphasized.

Due to this incident, about 20 flights will not be able to take off or land at Vinh airport until the problem is resolved, mainly Vinh - Ho Chi Minh City, Vinh - Buon Ma Thuot, Vinh - Phu Quoc flights with about 350 passengers.
Passengers who have not yet checked in have been notified by the airport and airlines about the incident to arrange a reasonable time. Passengers who have arrived at the airport must wait or have a plan to rest until the runway is fixed.
Regarding the repair plan, Mr. Hoang Van Thu said: Because this is asphalt concrete, we must conduct a survey, contact the contractor, and use equipment to scrape, compact, and spread asphalt... Repairs will be made at around 3:00 p.m. this afternoon and are expected to be completed in 3-5 hours.

Passengers need to follow the announcements of the airport and airlines to have a reasonable time arrangement before the airport is reopened./.
