Wanted fugitive arrested after changing name after more than 25 years on the run

The Drug Crime Investigation Police Department of Nghe An Province has successfully solved a case and arrested a wanted suspect for drug crimes after 25 years on the run.
That subject is Tran Van Trung (born in 1969), residing in Kim Son town, Que Phong district, Nghe An, a particularly dangerous wanted subject for the crime of“Illegal drug trafficking”.
On the night of August 30, 1998, Tran Van Trung (born in 1969) and Nguyen Van Hung (born in 1968), both residing in Kim Son town, Que Phong district, Nghe An, drove each other on a Win 100 motorbike without a license plate to transport drugs from Kim Son town to the gate of Que Phong Forestry, Nghe An. The police checked and discovered that they were illegally transporting drugs, so they were arrested.
During the process of being discovered and arrested, both subjects fought back fiercely, taking advantage of the darkness and rugged terrain of the mountainous area. Tran Van Trung escaped from the scene, while Nguyen Van Hung was subdued and arrested by the police with evidence of 9.5 kg of drugs.
Based on the documents and evidence collected during the investigation, on November 9, 1998, the Nghe An Police Investigation Agency issued a wanted order for Tran Van Trung (born in 1969), residing in Kim Son town, Que Phong district, Nghe An, for the crime of "Illegal transportation of drugs" and organized forces to carry out many verification and arrest measures but without results.
By June 2023, implementing the direction of the Provincial Police Department, the Drug Crime Investigation Department of Nghe An Provincial Police had synchronously deployed professional measures to conduct verification. The results discovered Tran Van Trung's hiding journey for 25 years, accordingly, after escaping the police force's siege, Nguyen Van Trung fled to the southern provinces such as Dong Nai, Dak Lak, Can Tho, Binh Duong... every 3, 4 years, changing residence and doing all kinds of jobs to make a living.
To avoid detection and arrest by the police, Tran Van Trung changed his name many times and finally when he arrived in Di An, Binh Duong, Trung changed his name to Tran Van Nam (born in 1969), residing in Que Phong town, Que Phong district, Nghe An province and brought his wife and children to live here.
The verification process found that Tran Van Trung is a particularly dangerous wanted person, has been on the run for a long time, has changed his name and resides in a complex, densely populated area. If only carrying out normal verification and arrest measures, it will not be effective, so the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department reported and proposed to the leaders of the Provincial Police Investigation Agency to establish a special project to concentrate forces, means, and professional measures to verify and arrest effectively, ensuring absolute safety.
After having all the relevant evidence and documents, the Task Force sent a working group to travel nearly 1,500 km to Di An city, Binh Duong province to investigate and verify. Accordingly, at 9:00 a.m. on July 7, 2023, in An Binh ward, Di An city, Binh Duong province, with the support of the professional departments of Nghe An Provincial Police and the coordination and support of the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department of Binh Duong Provincial Police, the Task Force arrested Tran Van Trung to ensure absolute safety.
At the investigation agency, Tran Van Trung initially denied the crime and did not admit that he was Tran Van Trung. However, faced with convincing evidence and sharp arguments from the investigator, Tran Van Trung had to bow his head and admit his guilt and clearly explain his actions in order to receive leniency from the law.
