According to Russia's TASS news agency reported on September 7, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov affirmed that the deployment of Russian tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus is continuing according to the set plan.
Specifically, when speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a regional conference on strengthening the nuclear non-proliferation regime, he said: “The deployment of Russian tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus is being carried out according to the schedule mentioned by the Russian President. To date, a number of stages of creating relevant infrastructure and re-equipping the corresponding means of transport have been completed.”
The senior diplomat affirmed that “this work is still ongoing”.
Mr. Ryabkov refused to comment further on the nature of the ongoing preparations and the deadline for completing the assigned tasks, citing the lack of relevant instructions and directives.
“If the leadership thinks it is feasible and appropriate to present in detail what is going on, then it will be done. As of today, I have nothing more to say than what has been previously announced on this issue,” the diplomat said.
