(Baonghean.vn) - The plan of NATO countries to conduct the largest military exercise to contain Russia has been commented on by military observer, retired Colonel Viktor Litovkin.

NATO countries are planning to hold their largest military exercise since the Cold War in February and March 2024, the Financial Times reported. More than 40,000 military personnel, fighter jets and more than 50 warships will participate in the exercise called “Faithful Guardian,” in which NATO will carry out “actions to repel a Russian attack on one of the NATO alliance members,” the Financial Times said.

“Every year NATO announces the “largest exercise since the Cold War”. This is not surprising. Last year they also deployed 40 thousand servicemen, although they promised 300 thousand. This is just PR, an attempt to show off NATO exercises. Moreover, it should be understood that these 40 thousand people will not be gathered at one training ground. Separate units in Germany, France, Great Britain, that is, in each NATO country, will conduct the exercise, so in total there will be 40 thousand people. Yes, there will be 50 ships, from 500 sorties, but all this will not happen in one place and not immediately, but gradually and in different places. Threats, of course, exist, but there is no need to exaggerate them. It is necessary to keep one's powder dry,” said Victor Litovkin.

Military experts believe that Russia will respond to this exercise in the same way as before. "We are watching this exercise, carefully considering what they will demonstrate, what new equipment, what new tactics will be applied. We know NATO's tactics from Ukraine. Kiev has carried out counterattacks in the NATO model. And the fact that the counterattack failed shows what NATO's tactics are when confronting a serious opponent," Viktor Litovkin emphasized./.
