West ashamed as Ukraine rejects German tanks
(Baonghean.vn) - Experts say that the transfer of defective tanks to Ukraine is a shame for Germany and the West.

The Spectator magazine (UK), in an analysis by expert Nigel Jones, said that Germany is in a difficult situation after transferring defective Leopard-1 tanks to Ukraine.
“The transfer of tanks to Ukraine is an embarrassment for Berlin. This is the second time Ukraine has publicly rejected German weapons,” wrote expert Nigel Jones.
The expert said that the defects in the equipment sent will raise serious questions for the Berlin government, which reluctantly agreed to supply tanks to Kiev. Germany had to withdraw 18 Leopard tanks from its inventory to aid Ukraine, although the German army also needed these tanks.
Earlier, on September 19, German newspaper Der Spiegel quoted sources saying that Kiev refused to accept 10 German Leopard 1A5 tanks, when it discovered that these tanks were damaged and did not meet technical requirements. Meanwhile, Ukraine did not have enough engineers and spare parts to repair them themselves.
However, German Defense Ministry spokeswoman Christina Rutsi said that the tanks committed to Ukraine would always be in a state of combat readiness along the front line.
Berlin then sent a technical team to inspect the shipment, concluding that they had deteriorated during training for Ukrainian soldiers in Germany, and needed maintenance before being sent to the front.
Russia has repeatedly warned that any Western weapons transferred to Ukraine would only prolong the conflict and make it more bloody. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov once warned that “German tanks will burn up on the Ukrainian battlefield like other Western weapons.”
