French newspaper points out NATO's new escape action due to Ukraine
The West is fleeing from the political and military front due to the failure in Ukraine, writes commentator Sylvie Kauffmann of Le Monde newspaper.
“The French withdrawal from Niger, two years after the US withdrawal from Afghanistan, shows that the West is retreating, a retreat that is not only military but also political and diplomatic. Moreover, the conflict in Ukraine is part of this withdrawal plan and exacerbates its consequences,” said journalist Kaufmann.
She added that after one flight, the West is quietly preparing for another. According to the author, the West is forced to make concessions on many issues due to dissatisfaction with its policies in the Southern Hemisphere. The conflict in Ukraine has exacerbated this trend, the journalist concluded.
Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron said that French troops would withdraw from Niger before the end of the year. He also pledged to end military cooperation with the current government in this country because "they no longer want to fight the war against terrorism".
