Increasing the value of Thanh Chuong crispy persimmon products
(Baonghean.vn) - With the advantages of large fruit, sweet taste, aroma, crunchy and especially seedless, Thanh Chuong crispy persimmon is very popular in the market and has a high selling price.
Key crops in garden economic development

Mrs. Nguyen Thi My's family (My Chua village, Thanh Tien commune) planted 20 crispy rose bushes, of which 10 are over 30 years old and 10 are 3-4 years old. Currently, all 20 rose bushes have borne fruit and are ready for harvest.
Ms. My said: “This is a native crispy persimmon variety, grown locally for decades. Initially, we only planted a few trees to eat and give as gifts to relatives. The sweet, fragrant, crispy persimmons have no seeds, are very popular, many people look to buy them, so the family has expanded the variety. Each year, the perennial persimmon tree yields 1.5-2 quintals of fruit, with a selling price ranging from 30,000-40,000 VND/kg, bringing in a stable income of 5-7 million VND/tree.”

Mr. Duong Dac Thang - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Thanh Tien commune said that the crispy persimmon variety is very suitable for the soil and climate here, so it does not require much care and does not take up much land area. Therefore, persimmon trees are chosen by many families in the commune as the main crop when renovating gardens, building model gardens, and new rural standard gardens; many farms and ranches choose it as the main crop in developing the VAC economy. Currently, the whole commune has about 2 hectares of crispy persimmon trees with 100 households growing them.
On an area of 25 hectares of farm land, Mr. Nguyen Tien Hung (Thanh Lieu village, Thanh Tien commune) is planning to set aside 2 hectares to grow crispy persimmons. Currently, 200 persimmon trees have been harvested. Mr. Hung said: “Previously, the farm mainly grew green-skinned grapefruit and Dien grapefruit, but the economic efficiency was not high. Starting from 2019, I re-planned the area for growing fruit trees, accordingly, taking crispy persimmons as the main crop. Currently, 200 fruit-bearing trees have been planted, and in the near future, it will be expanded to 700-1,000 trees.”

In Thanh Linh commune, in recent years, the area of seedless crispy persimmons has also been restored and expanded. According to statistics, the whole commune currently has nearly 4 hectares of seedless persimmons, many of which have produced stable harvests; persimmons are planted scattered in all villages, but are concentrated in Dong Thuong and Trung Long villages... Among them, households grow 50-100 trees or more such as Mr. Dinh Van Tuat, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Soi (Dong Thuong village); Mr. Nguyen Duy Khanh, Mr. Nguyen Tien Bay, Mr. Tran Van Thien, Mr. Nguyen Van Thu, Mr. Nguyen Van Thang (Trung Long village).
Increase the value of crispy persimmons

Unlike Nam Dan persimmons and Ky Son egg persimmons, Thanh Chuong's seedless crispy persimmons are round and long, with a green-yellow skin that turns yellow mixed with red when ripe. When cut open, they have a shiny yellow color, are crunchy, have a rich sweet taste, and are seedless, so they are loved by many people.
Mr. Le Van Quang - Director of the Agricultural Service Center of Thanh Chuong district said: “The seedless crispy persimmon is a delicious persimmon variety typical of Thanh Chuong. It was planted by people several decades ago, mainly in Thanh Lien, Thanh Tien and Thanh Linh localities. For a while, due to the narrowing of garden land, many hill gardens switched to growing fruit trees such as grapefruit, guava, etc., so the crispy persimmon tree lost its position. In recent years, many households have restored this persimmon variety. Currently, it is estimated that the area is about 10 hectares.”

At this time, people in Thanh Lien, Thanh Tien, Thanh Linh are harvesting crispy persimmons. The early season price is high at 35,000-40,000 VND/kg, while the main season price is around 30,000 VND/kg. As persimmons are harvested and soaked, traders buy them all, so people rarely have to sell retail.
“The crispy persimmon tree has a long lifespan, the older the tree, the better the quality of the fruit. That is the “savings” in the garden. Therefore, in addition to expanding the persimmon growing area, we hope to be supported in planting techniques, how to care for persimmon trees to ensure VietGAP standards, and build a brand so that Thanh Chuong crispy persimmon products become local specialties. Once the persimmon tree has been expanded and developed, it is necessary to establish cooperatives and cooperatives, creating conditions to expand the market and increase the value and price of persimmon trees. From there, it will bring a livelihood to people in the semi-mountainous communes,” said Mr. Nguyen Van Thang, a persimmon grower in Long village, Thanh Linh commune.

Currently, Thanh Chuong crispy persimmon varieties are grafted by households themselves or purchased from other households to expand the area, some households buy varieties from agents. Therefore, the quality of crispy persimmon varieties is not guaranteed, many households buy varieties that are not standard Thanh Chuong crispy persimmon varieties.

Therefore, rose growers also hope that the district will coordinate with specialized agencies to select excellent rose varieties and original rose varieties and develop policies to preserve and protect them as a long-term source of seeds for production, especially distributing seeds to other communes with suitable soil conditions to expand the rose growing area.
