150 disabled children received humanitarian examination and surgery in Nghe An
(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of October 21, in Vinh City, the Nghe An Provincial Children's Fund in collaboration with Operation Smile Vietnam and Hoan My Vinh International Hospital organized the opening ceremony of the humanitarian examination and surgery program for children with congenital cleft lip and palate defects in 2023.
Attending the ceremony were representatives of the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Nghe An and related departments and branches.
According to the program, from October 21 to October 26, about 150 children in Nghe An, Thanh Hoa and some neighboring provinces with congenital defects such as cleft lip and palate, extra fingers and toes, congenital ptosis over 5 years old... will be examined and operated to bring smiles to them, as the name of the organization suggests.

Dr. Le Thua Trung Hau, Head of the Department of Dentistry and Maxillofacial Surgery at Hoan My Vinh International Hospital, said: Cleft lip and cleft palate are the most common congenital defects occurring in the face and mouth. However, these children will have a normal face if treated at the right time. Treatment for children with cleft lip and palate is a long-term process with many procedures such as lip and palate surgery, speech therapy, orthodontics, bone correction, and cosmetic surgery when they grow up.

According to Operation Smile Vietnam, to date, the unit has coordinated with 15 partner hospitals to perform surgery for nearly 30,000 cases of cleft lip and palate. In Nghe An alone, from 2005 to present, the program has sponsored examination and consultation for 2,091 children with cleft lip and palate and performed surgery for 1,054 children with cleft lip and palate in 21 districts, cities and towns.
