Pretending to be a police officer to stop a vehicle for a violation, asking for money to let it go
Tran Duy Hieu invited 3 friends to pretend to be criminal police officers to patrol and catch traffic violators and asked for money to let them off the hook.
On October 22, Long Thanh District People's Procuracy (Dong Nai)prosecute4 defendants: Tran Duy Hieu (24 years old, residing in Long Khanh city), Pham Minh Khoi (22 years old, residing in Xuan Loc district), Nguyen Minh Chuong (26 years old) and Vo Minh Tri (23 years old, both residing in Nhon Trach district) for the crime of "Extortion of property".
According to the indictment, Hieu was a conscript in the police force from March 2021 to March 2023. After being discharged from the army, Hieu invited Chuong, Tri and Khoi to pretend to be criminal police officers to patrol at night on Highway 51 to catch traffic violators. When they caught the violators, the group demanded money to let them go.
Specifically, on June 3, this group drove on Highway 51 to find traffic violators, stopped the vehicles and demanded money. The subjects asked 7 traffic violators to pay 3.6 million VND.
While continuing to block the car, the group was discovered by local residents to be posing as police officers. Local residents arrested the suspects and handed them over to the authorities.
Expanding the investigation, the police determined that from mid-March to April, the subjects committed the above acts twice more to appropriate more than 17 million VND from passersby.
