The latest regulations on maximum speed of cars and motorbikes that drivers need to know

To ensure traffic safety, when participating in traffic, depending on the type of vehicle and the type of road, the maximum speed allowed is different. Vehicles such as cars and motorbikes, if violating, will be subject to administrative penalties according to regulations.

The maximum speed of vehicles such as cars and motorbikes in areas such as densely populated areas, outside densely populated areas, etc. is regulated differently. Drivers need to clearly understand the speed limit in the area to avoid exceeding the speed limit.

Maximum speed of motorbike

According to Circular 31/2019/TT-BGTVT of the Ministry of Transport regulating the speed and safe distance of motor vehicles and specialized motorbikes participating in road traffic, the maximum speed of motorbikes (or motorcycles) in specific areas is as follows:

- Maximum speed of motorbikes in densely populated areas:

For dual carriageways; one-way roads with two or more motor vehicle lanes: 60km/h.

For two-way roads; one-way roads with one lane for motor vehicles: 50km/h.

- Maximum speed of motorbikes outside densely populated areas:

For dual carriageways; one-way roads with two or more motor vehicle lanes: 70km/h.

For two-way roads; one-way roads with one lane for motor vehicles: 60km/h.

- Maximum speed of motorbike: No more than 40km/h.

Maximum speed of the car

Also according to Circular 31/2019/TT-BGTVT of the Ministry of Transport, the maximum speed of cars is also specifically regulated as follows:

- Maximum speed of cars in densely populated areas:

For dual carriageways; one-way roads with 2 or more motor vehicle lanes: 60km/h.

For two-way roads; one-way roads with one lane for motor vehicles: 50km/h.

- The maximum speed of cars outside densely populated areas is specifically regulated for each type as shown below:

- The maximum speed of a car on the highway does not exceed 120km/h.

This Circular also stipulates that when participating in traffic on highways, drivers and operators of specialized motorbikes must comply with the maximum and minimum speeds indicated on road signs and road markings on the lanes.
