US and EU begin talks with Ukraine on peace talks with Russia
(Baonghean.vn) - According to NBC, “the talks included a very broad outline of what Ukraine might need to give up to reach an agreement.”
Russian news agency TASS on November 4 quoted sources from NBC television channel, citing US officials, saying that US and European officials have begun discussions with their Ukrainian counterparts about the possibility of holding peace talks with Russia and what Kiev may have to give up to reach an agreement.
According to the source, they have begun “quietly talking to the Ukrainian government about what potential peace talks with Russia might include” to end the conflict.
“The talks included a very broad outline of what Ukraine might need to give up to reach a deal,” the source said.
NBC confirmed that some of the conversations took place last month, reflecting concerns that the conflict had reached a stalemate and concerns about the ability to continue providing aid to Ukraine.
Officials say “Ukraine may only have until the end of the year or shortly thereafter before more urgent discussions about peace talks need to take place,” NBC reported.
Russia has repeatedly stated its position on the situation in Ukraine at various levels. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Moscow has always been and remains open to a diplomatic solution to the crisis and is ready to respond to serious proposals.
Meanwhile, TASS said that the Kiev government had disrupted and banned negotiations with the Russian side.
