(Baonghean.vn) - The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman said that the consequences of the events that occurred after Euromaidan in Ukraine were that an industrialized and populous country became a poor country.

In a commentary marking the 10th anniversary of the start of Maidan, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that legal chaos and lawlessness now reign in Ukraine.

Maria Zakharova believes that the "Euromaidan" events have finally turned Ukraine from a self-sufficient, industrialized and populous republic of the former Soviet Union into a poor and "dying" territory. The country has lost its independence and support from the West - those who determine its domestic and foreign policy.

On November 21, a protest broke out on Maidan Square in the capital Kiev. What started out as a peaceful protest turned into clashes between protesters and security forces, leading to the fall of Yanukovich’s government. This in turn led to political changes in Ukraine and conflict in the eastern regions of the country.

Maria Zakharova noted that the anti-government protests that broke out on November 21, 2013 in the center of Kiev became the starting point and at the same time the point of no return for the disaster that is happening in Ukraine today.

According to Ms. Zakharova, rioters trained by Western "instructors" brought crowds to the streets to protest, under catchy slogans, but in reality these were well-orchestrated riots paid for from outside with the aim of overthrowing the legitimate government.

The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman said that the reason for the beginning of Euromaidan was the delay in signing the association agreement with the European Union, since this document contradicts Kiev's existing obligations in the CIS free trade zone.

“The West tried very hard, but failed, to gain control over Ukraine during the Orange Revolution in 2004. So in 2013 they acted even more sophisticatedly. The task was to subdue the Ukrainian elite in order to pump resources out of Ukraine, turning the country into a source of instability and a springboard for an attack on Russia,” Zakharova stressed.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has also repeatedly assessed the Euromaidan events. At the plenary session of the 20th meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club in early October, he noted that the coup in Ukraine was provoked by the United States.

"I have no doubt that they provoked the Ukrainian crisis, by supporting the coup in Ukraine in 2014. They could not understand that this is a red line. We have said this a thousand times. And today we see the situation as it is. I suspect that this is not a coincidence" - President Putin said.
