(Baonghean.vn) - According to American military analyst James Holmes, the stalemate in Ukraine is increasingly reminiscent of the outcome of the Korean War. This means that it is time for Ukraine and the West to face the unpleasant reality that Kiev will no longer be able to reach the 1991 border.

According to RT, in an analysis on the 19FortyFive page, US military expert James Holmes commented that the war in Ukraine has finally reached a stalemate. While Russia "never" achieved its ultimate goals - namely the removal of the Kiev regime - Ukraine's counter-offensive ultimately failed.

According to expert Holmes, the Ukrainian army achieved very modest results, compared to the task set by the political leadership - to approach the state of the border demarcated in 1991.

“Kiev did not achieve everything it wanted politically, and it could not do that,” the American expert said.

That is why, according to Holmes, both sides of the conflict are in a state of "hanging", making it difficult to make big progress, while "indecision is maintained".

Neither Moscow nor Kiev can muster the strength to impose their terms, making it difficult for either side to make a breakthrough.

According to experts, this completely repeats the pattern described by the leadership and demonstrated during the Korean War - where the sides both fell into a stalemate for a number of objective reasons. As a result, neither side could achieve its maximum goal. And in the end, the two sides had to resolve the conflict through negotiations.

According to Holmes, this means that Ukraine and Western aid donors will have to face “hard realities”. And they need to think about what else can be done to get out of the current bad situation./.
