(Baonghean.vn) - Ukrainian officials and military commanders have repeatedly spoken out about the country's lack of not only Western-aided weapons, but also the manpower to operate them. In this context, the option of sending civil servants to the front is being considered.

According to Ria Novosti, in an interview with Radio NV, Colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Roman Svitan said that Ukrainian officials need to be sent to the front, due to the current severe shortage of soldiers.

"All civil servants who receive salaries and benefits from the state must be military and go to war. This is the "backbone" of the country. We can do this right now. Of our civil servants, perhaps only 1% perform combat missions. And we need all of them, including the security forces. All of them should be called up," said Ukrainian Colonel Svitan.

According to Colonel Svitan, summoning hundreds of thousands of civil servants will not affect the quality of work, because "the state apparatus simply does not need such a large number of civil servants".

Some Ukrainian officials have complained that their military has been unable to repel Russian forces because of delays in delivering promised weapons from Western allies. But some branches of Ukraine’s armed forces face more serious personnel shortages than weapons and ammunition.

An anonymous aide to President Volodymyr Zelensky admitted in an interview published by Time on October 30 that even though the US and its allies had handed over all weapons as promised, Ukraine did not have enough soldiers capable of using them.
