(Baonghean.vn) - After nearly 1 month of examining 81 people who have worked and are working at Chau Tien Company Limited, the investigation team discovered 57 people with silicosis, many of whom were seriously ill.

On the afternoon of December 5, a leader of the Nghe An Department of Health said that the occupational disease investigation team established by the unit had just had initial results after nearly 1 month of examining workers who had been working at Chau Tien Company Limited (located in Nghi Loc district). This is a company with a series of workers suffering from silicosis in a short period of time, of which 6 people have died.

"After nearly a month, we have examined 81 people who have been working at Chau Tien Company. Of these, 3 people were found to have silicosis and are now being re-examined, while 78 people are going for the first time. The results show that out of 81 people, 57 have silicosis," said the leader of the Department of Health, adding that of these 57 people, 19 have severe disease, 25 have moderate disease, and 13 have mild disease. In addition, there are 2 people whose X-ray films are blurry, so they cannot be identified.

In the list reported by Chau Tien Company Limited, there are 117 people who used to work at this company. However, despite the notification, 36 people have not yet come for medical examination. For the 6 cases that died, the investigation team also determined occupational diseases for 5 people. In the remaining case, there is still no basis for determination.

"For the remaining case, the team also contacted all the hospitals where this person was treated, but the records showed that this person was being treated for another disease. In this case, the team will continue to investigate," said the leader of the Department of Health.

Also according to the representative of the Department of Health, currently, Nghe An Provincial Police have also collected documents and started investigating the incident that occurred at Chau Tien Company Limited.

Previously, Nghe An Newspaper had repeatedly reported that in a short period of time, a series of workers who had been working for Chau Tien Company Limited were found to have pneumoconiosis; many died quickly. Workers who were being treated and relatives of the deceased filed a petition to the local authorities, requesting that the company compensate and subsidize workers with occupational diseases and ensure the rights and safety of workers. At the same time, they requested to be examined for occupational diseases, assess the level of reduced working capacity, as well as receive support for medical examination and treatment and resolve policies for workers.

On May 12, the Provincial People's Committee decided to establish an interdisciplinary inspection team to inspect this company. The inspection results showed that this companyThere were a series of violations. The Provincial People's Committee then fined more than 100 million VND.

After the inspection results, Nghe An Provincial People's Committee also issued a document requesting relevant departments and branches to direct Chau Tien Company Limited to overcome shortcomings and limitations in implementing legal regulations on labor safety and hygiene, and environmental protection; Monitor, supervise and promptly handle arising environmental issues. Nghe An Provincial People's Committee has also issued a document assigning relevant agencies to organize an investigation into occupational diseases for deceased workers.
