On the afternoon of December 12, at the Presidential Palace, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and his wife presided over the official welcoming ceremony for General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping and his wife on a state visit to Vietnam in the most solemn manner.




At exactly 4 p.m., the motorcade carrying General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping and his wife entered the Presidential Palace. General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and his wife came to the car door to welcome the General Secretary and President of China and his wife. Children in Hanoi presented flowers to welcome General Secretary and President Xi Jinping and his wife.
General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong shook hands and chatted with General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping, before the two leaders introduced officials in the delegation.
General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong invited the General Secretary and President of China to step up to the podium of honor. The military band played the national anthems of China and Vietnam. At the same time, at the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long, 21 thunderous cannon volleys were fired to welcome General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping and the Chinese delegation.

After the welcoming ceremony, the two leaders moved from the Presidential Palace to the Party Central Committee headquarters to hold talks. On the way, many people from both countries waved Vietnamese and Chinese flags to greet the two leaders.
