(Baonghean.vn) - In the last days of the year, some Thai villages and hamlets specializing in growing safe vegetables in Thach Giam town (Tuong Duong district) are busy preparing to plant and take care of key vegetables to serve the Tet market.
In 2023, the total area for growing various vegetables and beans in Thach Giam town will be about 65 hectares, reaching 116% of the plan (56 hectares), mainly concentrated in Phong village (6 hectares) and Chan village (10 hectares). The model brings in an income of 125 million VND/ha. In Phong village alone, there are about 2 hectares of safe vegetables according to VietGAP standards in Pieng Lung area. The whole village has 185 households, of which 54 households are in the cooperative group producing clean vegetables and fruits. People in Phong village started growing clean vegetables in 2011. Initially, the model received support from the Provincial Party Committee's Inspection Committee in coordination with the Faculty of Agriculture - Forestry - Fisheries (Vinh University). Households participating in the project were instructed on planting and care techniques and supported with vegetable varieties. Up to now, although the support has ended, the model is still developing well, bringing people a significant source of income (average 8-10 million VND/vegetable crop). Besides tubers and fruits such as cabbage, kohlrabi, cucumber... people also put vegetables, lettuce, coriander, onions... into production to serve the needs of consumers, especially during Tet. Mr. Hoang's family has 600m2 of clean vegetables, last year's Tet season alone brought in about 15-16 million VND in income from vegetables. There are households that earn an income of 20 million VND/crop from tomato alone, such as Mr. Luong Van Thi and Ms. Vi Thi Dien... Photo: GH-QAIn addition to tomato wedges, clean vegetable growers in Thach Giam town also focus on producing sweet cabbage for the Vinh city market, importing an average of 1.5 quintals per week according to orders, including the number of households that collect and sell to the market, which is 3 quintals of vegetables per week. Photo: QASome households like Mr. Vi Van Quang Tinh (Phong village) choose cabbage as the main crop to serve the New Year market because it is easier to care for and is not afraid of pests and diseases. Photo: GHFor the people of Chan village - where 45/135 households specialize in growing vegetables, the new feature of this year's winter crop is that in addition to the usual vegetables, some households have followed the direction of the commune to start growing Atlantic potatoes according to the 4-house linkage model (farmers, businesses, scientists and the State). Accordingly, the Institute of Agricultural Biology, Orion Vina Food Co., Ltd. (Korea), local authorities and people work together. Not only are farmers supported in seeds and science and technology, they are also supported in consuming their products. Photo: QAThe sprinkler irrigation system is applied on an area of 6 hectares of safe vegetables according to VietGap standards in Phong and Chan villages. Photo: GHIn order to meet market demand, especially during Tet, safe vegetable growers in Thach Giam town have intercropped short-term and long-term crops. After each row of vegetables is harvested, the next crop is planted immediately. In addition to operating the irrigation system and providing technical guidance, the clean vegetable and fruit production cooperative also connects, finds outlets, and finds orders to expand the consumption market for people.
