17/21 localities in Nghe An have African swine fever
(Baonghean.vn) - To date, the whole province has 17 districts, cities and towns with African swine fever with more than 100 outbreaks. The total number of pigs culled is nearly 8,000.
African swine feverappeared and broke out strongly in Nghe An in the period of 2019 - 2020. After 2 years, the epidemic temporarily subsided, but in the second half of 2023, the epidemic broke out again in many localities.
According to statistics, by the end of December 2023, the whole province had more than 100 outbreaks of African swine fever that had not passed 21 days in 17 districts, cities and towns including: Nghi Loc, Do Luong, Yen Thanh, Dien Chau, Anh Son, Hung Nguyen, Thanh Chuong, Nam Dan, Vinh City, Que Phong, Quy Hop, Con Cuong, Quynh Luu, Cua Lo Town, Hoang Mai Town, Tan Ky, Thai Hoa Town.

The whole province has destroyed nearly 8,000 pigs with a total weight of over 460 tons. This is a huge loss for households and large-scale farms in the province.
Districts with many outbreaks include: Do Luong (13 outbreaks, over 1,000 pigs destroyed); Yen Thanh (13 outbreaks, nearly 700 pigs destroyed); Anh Son (11 outbreaks, nearly 3,500 pigs destroyed); Thanh Chuong (10 outbreaks, nearly 600 pigs destroyed); Nghi Loc (13 outbreaks, 420 pigs destroyed)...
Currently, Nghe An province has provided more than 25,000 liters of chemicals, distributed to localities to fight the epidemic. As for lime powder for disinfection, districts, communes and livestock farmers will allocate their own funds to buy it for epidemic prevention.
Nghe An province also directed localities to disseminate knowledge and subjects of African swine fever vaccination to people so that they can register for vaccination. Initially, 1,258 doses of African swine fever vaccine were administered to 1,258 pigs aged 4 weeks and older in 4 districts: Yen Thanh, Que Phong, Quy Chau and Hung Nguyen. Currently, the pigs are growing and developing normally.

In addition, Nghe An province has also issued Directive No. 35/CT-UBND on "Focusing on directing the prevention and control of African swine fever in the area". Accordingly, it requires districts, cities, towns, and functional forces to focus on directing, organizing and implementing drastic, synchronous, and effective measures to prevent and control African swine fever in accordance with the direction of the Central Government and the province.
Any locality that is subjective or negligent in the work of preventing and controlling animal diseases, allowing the disease to spread widely, has a low vaccination rate, does not give strong direction, and does not rectify the dumping of animal carcasses into the environment, the Chairman of the People's Committee at the district or commune level must be responsible before the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee...
