Dien Chau District Police said that the unit has just arrested Nguyen Cao Sieu (born 2001, residing in Dien Thanh commune, Dien Chau district) for the act of "Theft of property".
Previously, at the end of December 2023, the District Police received a report from a construction company stating: During the construction of the traffic safety system of the North-South Expressway, Nghi Son - Dien Chau section, it was discovered that at the section passing through Dien Quang commune (Dien Chau), thieves had repeatedly stolen B40 mesh panels.
This is a steel fence system to protect and prohibit pedestrians and livestock from entering the highway.
Considering that the North-South Expressway is a key national project, the act of cutting and stealing the protective net not only causes property damage but also leads to safety risks and traffic accidents on the expressway, Dien Chau District Police reported to the Provincial Police leaders and established a special project to focus on investigating and clarifying the matter.
The task force coordinated with the police of communes and towns to conduct a large-scale search and discovered that Nguyen Cao Sieu had many suspicious signs. Sieu had a previous conviction for property theft, currently had no stable job, and often gathered and hung out with bad people.
In particular, recently, the subject has had a lot of money to spend on entertainment and personal expenses.
By professional measures, at noon on January 8, 2024, in Dien Thinh commune, Dien Chau district, Dien Chau district police broke up the case and arrested Nguyen Cao Sieu while he was transporting the evidence for sale.
At the investigation agency, Nguyen Cao Sieu confessed: Taking advantage of loopholes, the subject cut and stole B40 mesh panels to sell to scrap purchasing facilities to earn money to spend.
In just a short time, Sieu stole 100 B40 mesh panels used as protective fences on the North-South expressway, causing damage of about 200 million VND.
Currently, Dien Chau District Police are detaining the suspect to continue investigating and expanding the case.
