Captured wanted suspect after 10 years on the run
(Baonghean.vn) - The Police Department investigating crimes related to corruption, economics, smuggling, and the environment of the provincial police has just arrested Nguyen Duc Thanh (born in 1963), residing in Nghi Thach commune, Nghi Loc district, Nghe An province, wanted for fraud and property appropriation.
According to the case file, in 2011, although not allowed to provide fertilizer services to farmers in the commune, Nguyen Duc Thanh still used the name of the Nghi Thach Commune Farmers' Association to sign a contract with a business to purchase fertilizer to supply to farmers.
However, after receiving the fertilizer, Nguyen Duc Thanh did not supply it to farmers but sold it. When the payment deadline came for the purchase of more than 1 billion VND to the company, Thanh did not pay and then fled the area.

On December 2, 2014, the Investigation Police Agency of Nghe An Province Police issued a wanted notice for suspect Nguyen Duc Thanh for fraud and property appropriation.
After fleeing, to avoid being caught by the authorities, Nguyen Duc Thanh left the country for Malaysia. Through professional work, the Department of Investigation Police on Corruption, Economic, Smuggling, and Environmental Crimes of the Provincial Police received information that in December 2023, Thanh used a passport under another person's name to enter Vietnam and was hiding in the country.
With the spirit of resolutely attacking and suppressing crime, the Police Department investigating crimes of corruption, economy, smuggling, and environment has established a special project to fight and mobilize forces to persistently follow clues to track down Thanh.
After a period of synchronous and effective implementation of professional measures, at 0:30 on January 21, 2024, in Quy Hop district, the Department of Police Investigation of Crimes of Corruption, Economy, Smuggling, and Environment in coordination with relevant units successfully arrested Nguyen Duc Thanh.
The subject was then escorted to the headquarters of the Provincial Police Investigation Agency to serve the investigation and handling according to the provisions of law.
