(Baonghean.vn) - Establishing a disciplinary council to review violations in the case of an athlete accusing a coach of embezzling bonus money; China firing a coach after the worst Asian Cup in history; Vietnam falling out of FIFA's top 100 after nearly 5 years... are notable sports news in the past 24 hours.

Disciplinary council established to review violations in athlete's case accusing coach of embezzling bonus

Ms. Truong Ngoc Lan - Deputy Director of the Hanoi Sports Training and Competition Center said that this unit will set up a disciplinary council for violations by coaches in gymnastics. In addition, Ms. Lan said that the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports has worked with two coaches, Nguyen Ha Thanh and Nguyen Thuy Duong.

"The Department had a meeting with coaches Nguyen Ha Thanh and Nguyen Thuy Duong. Ha Thanh admitted her mistake in receiving coach Pham Nhu Phuong's leave application but did not report it to the national team's coaching staff. Thuy Duong received Phuong's fund money. Thuy Duong said that this money was paid into the general fund, and that she would compensate Nhu Phuong for any part that was collected incorrectly," Ms. Truong Ngoc Lan shared.

Ms. Lan also said that coach Thuy Duong realized that collecting money was wrong. The coach initially thought that achievements came not only from the athlete's training efforts but also from the coach's support efforts.

"He reported that he understood it in a simple way. Only when a teacher and student practice together can they achieve results. From that understanding, the athlete can agree on collecting money. We still have to handle the wrong thing, regardless of whether his understanding is correct or not."

According to Ms. Lan, the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports has issued an official dispatch directing the Center to handle the matter according to regulations. The Center will set up a disciplinary council and continue to meet to clearly consider the responsibilities of all levels, to see who directed this matter and who collected the money. The gymnastics department has no policy of collecting money from athletes.

"After this incident, the Center will inform all coaches to avoid similar incidents. The Center's stance is that violations will be handled, not covered up," Ms. Lan added. The Disciplinary Council is expected to meet next week.

Previously, in an interview with the media, athlete Pham Nhu Phuong accused the coach in charge of embezzling the prize money. Since 2017, for every medal she won, she had to deduct 10% of the prize money for the coach to pay to the department. In addition, the bonus money had to be divided to thank the departments.

Man City at risk of not participating in the Champions League next season, surprising reason revealed

Man City could miss out on Champions League football next season if Girona win La Liga.

Man City are currently the most successful club in the world after they won 5 trophies last season. Pep Guardiola's team won the Premier League, FA Cup, UEFA Champions League, European Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

However, Man City are facing 115 charges related to the violation of Financial Fair Play Laws that have lasted for many years in the Premier League. The tournament organizers are compiling documents and preparing to bring them to trial. In case of being found guilty, the Etihad team could be relegated.

Girona's "fairy tale" could turn into Man City's "nightmare".

Currently, Man City is still struggling with the risk of not being able to participate in the Champions League next season. The reason is the rise of Girona in La Liga. The story sounds unrelated but in reality is extremely related.

Man City and Girona are both part of the City Football Group. Under UEFA's anti-trust rules, two clubs with the same ownership cannot compete in the same competition. The team with the higher ranking in the national championship will be retained. While the team with the lower ranking will be demoted one level.

Currently, Girona is at the top of La Liga while Man City is ranked 2nd in the Premier League. If this position is maintained until the end of the season, Pep Guardiola's team will have to play in the Europa League next season!

In addition, UEFA also prohibits teams with the same owner from trading players with each other. This means that Girona will not be able to use Yan Couto, the player on loan from Man City, next season.

After returning from the Asian Cup, China has only nearly 2 months left to prepare for 2 important matches in the Asian World Cup qualifiers against Singapore.

Because of the urgent time and lack of trust, the Chinese Football Association (CFA) has planned to replace this captain. Instead, the opportunity will be given to Choi Kang Hee, head coach of Shandong Taishan.

Choi Kang Hee is highly regarded for his expertise and long-term experience working with Chinese football. Mr. Choi is known as a very strict coach.

The 64-year-old captain has a deep understanding of Chinese football as well as a flexible tactical mindset. These are considered necessary qualities for the person sitting in the hot seat to lead the Chinese team./.
