Former Head of the Thai Football Delegation Nualphan Lamsam, nicknamed Madam Pang, won the FAT (Football Association of Thailand) presidency by a landslide, winning 68/73 of the total votes.

The 93% vote rate is also the highest milestone in the 108-year history of the formation and development of FAT. The election also ended the 8-year domination of former police chief Somyot Poompunmuang as FAT President.

After overwhelmingly winning the FAT presidency, becoming the first woman to take on a key role in the national football governing body in Asia, Ms. Nualphan also promised to make every effort to quickly eliminate the problems of Thai football.

After winning the FAT presidency by a landslide on February 9, Madam Pang shared with a bright smile: “Of course, I am very happy. I was so happy that I couldn’t sleep last night. First of all, I would like to send my sincere thanks to all FAT members who voted for me. There are some issues facing the federation, and my team and I will soon resolve them.”

Although appointed as the 18th president of FAT, Madam Pang must wait for official approval from the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT).

Speaking about the financial problems facing Thai League teams, Ms Nualphan said: “In the first 100 days, Thai League 3 teams – or maybe all leagues – will face a lot of financial problems. We need time to stabilize our work, then there is the problem of receiving the remaining budget from the outgoing team. But rest assured, I have a capable team to solve this problem. On the sponsor side, we will approach those who are truly passionate about Thai football.”

During his tenure, Nualphan also wanted to simplify the Thai League 1 schedule.
