(Baonghean.vn) - After Tet is the time when livestock farmers enter a new investment cycle of the year, therefore, the demand for breeding animals also increases. The market for livestock breeds such as pigs and chickens is therefore quite active, with prices increasing compared to before.

After selling a batch of 10 pigs on the occasion of Lunar New Year and selling the remaining 10 pigs on the occasion of the 15th day of the first lunar month, Ms. Nguyen Thi Cuc in Lien Chung hamlet, Phong Thinh commune (Thanh Chuong) will have an empty barn. Ms. Cuc said that after selling all of this batch of pigs, she will clean up the barn and restock the herd, instead of leaving the barn empty for too long.

Ms. Cuc said: “Raising livestock is the main income of the family. Therefore, after selling this batch, we will raise the next batch. Every year, we rotate 3 batches. The pigs sold during Tet and the Full Moon Festival had a good price, so we are very excited. The next batch will raise 20 super 3-blood pigs and 10 F1 wild hybrid pigs.”

Farm-scale farming, each batch ranges from 150 pigs. Therefore, after selling the pigs for Tet, Mr. Tran Ngoc Long in Nghia Khanh commune (Nghia Dan) is currently cleaning the barn, spraying disinfectants and contacting reputable breeding farms to choose pig breeds to raise.

“After the full moon, I will import 200 piglets from a company in Ha Tinh to rebuild the herd. They are all super 3-blood pigs. The pork market has ups and downs, but my farm has linked up with a number of traders and consumers, so no matter how it fluctuates, we must ensure a regular supply without interruption,” said Mr. Long.

In order to meet the demand for herd restoration after Tet, Ms. Le Na in Hamlet 8, Tuong Son Commune (Anh Son) - a trader specializing in providing piglets for people along National Highway 7 - started "opening business" on the 6th day of Tet. "In less than 10 days, I have sold more than 800 piglets to people in districts such as Con Cuong, Anh Son, Do Luong, Thanh Chuong. Mainly pigs for small-scale households and super pigs for farms and ranches", Ms. Na said.

Specializing in raising sows to sell breeding pigs, currently in the barn of Ms. Hoang Thi Thuy's family in Phong Thinh commune (Thanh Chuong), there are 5 sows with a total herd of 70 breeding pigs, all of which have been "ordered" in advance by local people. "In July 2023, I had a litter of piglets to sell to people to raise for Tet, priced at only 500,000 - 650,000 VND/breeding pig, but now, all 70 breeding pigs this batch have been "deposited" at a price of 800,000 VND/pig".

According to a survey, the price of piglets on the market is currently increasing slightly. Accordingly, the price of domestic pigs (from small-scale farmers) ranges from 600,000 - 1.2 million VND/pig (depending on the breed, depending on the weight chart); while the price of 3-blood super lean pigs from reputable companies and breeding farms ranges from 1.4 - 1.7 million VND/pig (weight chart from 7-9 kg). This price is slightly higher than before Tet.

According to traders, the reason why the price of piglets is increasing at this time is because according to the breeding cycle, people have sold all their pigs during Tet, so after Tet, the demand for herd restoration is high. In addition, the price of live pigs has increased, so the price of piglets has also increased. Another reason is that during the year, when African swine fever recurred, a large number of pigs were culled, so sows and piglets were also lost, so there were fewer piglets than in previous years.

“After a period of being affected by high feed prices, the impact of disease and the price of live pigs hitting rock bottom, now that feed prices have decreased, the disease is under control and the price of live pigs is on the rise, the demand for herd restoration has increased sharply, doubling or tripling compared to before. Therefore, the price of piglets will also increase according to the law of supply and demand,” said Ms. Le Na, a trader specializing in piglets.

This year, after Tet, the weather is warm and sunny, so it is very favorable for flocking poultry. Therefore, people also focus on re-herding, making the chicken breeding market quite active. In addition to native chicken breeds (silk chicken, free-range chicken) that people breed themselves by traditional incubation or incubator, the sugar cane chicken, yellow chicken, and ri chicken breeds are imported from reputable companies, fully vaccinated.
